It was pretty fucking creepy/amazing when the monkey grabbed the top of the table thing and realized it didn't need to use its arm anymore to interact with the game.
fuckin wow. 10/13/2007 2:46:13 PM |

^ Yeah, that's pretty nuts. I trust monkeys even less now.
But, that scientist guy is nuts if he thinks processing even 100 inputs is enough to unlock the brain. We'd really have to have on the order of a million electrodes implanted to do anything REALLY cool, I bet, which is primarily a limitation of our manufacturing technology. 10/13/2007 11:18:55 PM |

i disagree. hundreds would be more than enough to operate an anthropomorphic robot using thought alone. i would gauge that to be REALLY cool
millions would probably be enough to read images, sounds, and memories. at this point it is no longer cool (scary is more like it) and i would kill anyone who tried to do that shit to me.
...on the flipside it would probably be enough to stick a human or animal brain inside a robot and operate artificial life support systems (robotic heart, lungs, etc.) and possible add sensory information (night vision, infrared pyrometer, radiation sensitivity, extra eyes?) in a manner completely interoperating with the mind

I disagree. This guy is using hundreds, and is barely moving a robotic arm competently.
Maybe if they knew EXACTLY where to put the 100 they could do it with some precision, but they more or less just kind of through a bunch on and let Bayes take its course.10/14/2007 1:50:46 AM |

^^ a lot of the brain activity picked up by those implants does not contribute to the arm motion. with those same implants a monkey could be trained to perform other tasks as well. 10/14/2007 2:22:31 AM |
