Got a phone with cingular but don't feel like paying so much for the data plan, is it possible to find another isp to connect through for a monthly/yearly rate? 10/14/2007 7:51:27 PM |

Just pay $20/month for Media Max 200 and tether your phone with a data cable. 10/14/2007 9:03:29 PM |

nah i mean so i can use the inet when i'm not at home. i don't need inet for the phone if i'm on my computer...
and the reason i asked is that i heard of a place that you pay i think 15 a year and he gives you the ip addys and login info to connect through a diff satellite for free

okay, there are many things wrong with this statement, haha
a) cellphones do not use satellites for anything besides maybe GPS, unless they are also sat phones.
b) you CANNOT (i repeat CANNOT) use another ISP for data service on your phone. you're going over cingular's network. data has to be sent a certain way. even if you had the ip of some guy's radius server, you still would have to connect to cingular's network first. the closest you could come is doing something through CSD (carrier-switched detection) which basically makes your phone like a dialup modem and uses your plan minutes.
any questions, plz ask me. i used to do some contract work for cingular.10/15/2007 12:05:50 AM |

no, tethering is not what he wants to do
this is for the data service on his phone that, if he wanted to do so, would ALLOW him to tether. 10/15/2007 12:34:40 PM |

no, it is not at all what he wants to do
tethering is connecting your phone to your computer so you can use your phone's data plan through dial up networking on your computer
