If Nebraska fired the AD for the football team not living up to expectations can we get rid of Lee Fowler. Opening the newspaper is so damn depressing because the only thing I read in the sports section anymore are losses to rivals and for us to hang in there because better days are coming. It is sad that NCSU was once thought of as a sports powerhouse, but now we are just considered a has been program just like Nebraska. Lee Fowler doesn't have the spine to fire anybody (except the volleyball coach who after going 0 - 5349564836 his daughter complained about and she got fired) and neither does Oblinger. Being a pack fan is hard enough these days but Lee Fowler just continues to watch a former powerhouse crumble to where we have now become the worse team in the ACC in just about everything.

we've just hired 2 new coaches in our 2 main sports. what purpose would it serve to bring in a new AD that has the balls to fire them at this point? you think we should clean house and fire fowler, lowe, and o'brien?

if not, then what is to be gained from firing fowler? lowe and o'brien are in charge of turning their respective programs around and i highly doubt fowler is going to do anything to hinder that.

if 5 or 6 years from now we are still in the gutter in both sports with no signs of improvement under these new coaches, and fowler makes no move to make a change, then maybe you have a case.

firing the AD now just for the sake of firing him would be pretty fucking dumb. what if the replacement comes in and clashes with our coaches and leads to problems? not worth it. leave fowler alone until the football/basketball situations shake out.

it would have made more sense than firing him today, but i think we came away with 2 solid hires and i'm anxious to see where they take us.

constantly hiring/firing coaches is rarely the answer anyway. i've always been a fan of giving the coach time if he shows progress. i'd much rather keep a terrible coach for a couple years too many than let a great coach slip away b/c he wasn't given enough time to do his thing.

vanderbilt won the SEC baseball championship in 2007, ole miss won in 2006 or 2005

clemson won the ACC baseball championship last year

baylor and texas a&m have won a few big 12 championships

ditto for washington state and minnesota

seton hall, marquette, and depaul are not BCS schools

I agree with the concept of giving a coach time to see what he can do but I still believe that Lee Folwer is not the man that should be running NCSU athletics. Prior to Sidney Lowe and Tom O'Brien being hired I have a feeling that a lot of people would agree that it was time for a complete athletic overhaul but since we got both Sid and O'Brien it helps to put a veil on a pig. Let us not forget that Lee Fowler was cold calling everyone and their brother to be our basketball coach before finally hiring Sidney who was his consultant. I think getting turned down on national television by a few big name coaches helped him to wise up and hire a head hunter for the football search. Also, the fact that it took the board of trustees and the fans applying the pressure on Oblinger to pressure Lee into even doing anything about Amato is a cause for concern and in 2005 when he sent out a letter to the fans after the Thursday night Clemson loss was a PR nightmare. If we see Nebraska competing for more national championships with positive results while NCSU is still trying to win a major conference title in 5 years then the only thing we have done is set ourselves back another 10 to 15 years.

^^^ Take a look at NCSU and Missouri because this is some food for thought. I have been working on this for a while since the Big East is always realigning. The only sports that were included in this were the major sports Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Women's Basketball. California would be joining NCSU and Missouri had they not won a share of the football championship last year.

Lincoln, NE - Action 3 News has learned from sources close to the Nebraska Football program that Husker Head Coach Bill Callahan made a bombshell announcement on Thursday night. The sources say Callahan addressed the team before practice and told them he was asked to resign. Callahan told the team he would not resign. Action 3 News sources also say that Callahan told the players to keep playing for themselves because the coaching staff will most likely not return after this season. So far calls to the University of Nebraska for comment have gone unanswered.

WVU won the Big East in football 3 years running. The last year before the split tied with Miami, the crappy year tied with Pitt and BC and 2 years ago when they beat UGA in the Sugar Bowl...

And Cincy must have won C-USA once or twice the last 15 years...

UConn and BC also split the Big East title (the Big East recognizes both regular season and conference champions with trophies) in bball the last year BC was in the conference..

We got lucky that Lee Fowler was talking with Sidney the entire process.

Just not about him being the coach, at least not at first. After we went through Barnes, Calipari, and then the 10 or so "potential hires" that people got all hyped about, Lee was talking with Sidney, and from what I read Sidney suggested that he could take the job.

I don't think that means Fowler never wanted Sidney, but more likely that he thought Sid was out of reach, because Sid didn't see himself coming back to NCSU this early. I think this was 6+ years off in his plans. But then after all the shit went down, Sid realized that it was his time, and State needed him.

Goddamn, even in a Callahan thread I get wet for Sid.

Callahan is medicore coach, but

the day they fired Frank Solich and hired Callahan....

Callahan never really got the whole concept of Nebraska football and he feels like he wasn't give a proper chance at Nebraska.....
