It's about time I added subs, I think I'm slowly destroying my existing speakers turning them up too loud and not getting what I want out of 'em.

I have a pioneer headunit (DEH-P9800BT) and component 6.5" speakers in the front. I want to fill out the bass in the car, but not make it overpowering. I have friends who have big ported sets of 12" subs that don't really flow into the rest of the music very well and I'm more concerned with sound quality than feeling how far I can flex my eardrums before they tear.

That said, I don't want to end up disappointed when I turn up the volume and the subs can't handle it.

I listen to mostly rock when I'm driving, heavy metal and the occasional rap or electronic.

So from what I've been told, a sealed dual 12" box should do the trick.

Thoughts on what I should pick up? Sub size/brand, amp type/size/brand/configuration? This is all going in the back of a 96 tahoe 2-door.

A nice 10" in a sealed enclosure with a solid amp is all you need. Anything else is just overkill.

Yeah, I've had several friends have theirs stolen, but I'll take the risk.

Nope, just using the one built into my head unit.

If one 10 is all I need I'd love to keep at least some of the space in the back of the car, it's already half full of spare tire...

i did a 10w7 in my tahoe for a while and it was money. i got rid of it because it was too much after a while. i would look into 1 12w3 or similar.

maybe you need to try a speaker amp first. you may find yourself happy with the bass it produces and overall clarity of sound. as an additional benefit, you can have them mount the amp in an inconspicuous location

^^x2

you shouldn't be running components off u power. if they are a decent set you'd be surprised at how much better they sound with real power and some dynamat on their mounting surface. i'd get a 4 chanel and map all the speaekrs if u're sill not happpy u can bridge the rears to a sub .

I'm selling a set that may fill your needs. All of the equipment has been tested, but is brand new, and never installed anywhere.

4 Elemental Designs 8'' subs in 2 cu.ft. box. Dimensions approx 38'' x 9'' x 7''
MA Audio amp 2 x 250W RMS @2ohm

The box was designed in WINISD and has been modeled to hit 132 dB peak.
$200 for the subs, box, and amp.

Ok, so how do I pick an amp intelligently then? I don't want to go cheap and regret it and I want to plan for a sub whether I actually get one or not (which I probably will, even if the components sound awesome there are frequencies I miss below what they can handle). The components are Polk Audio db6500s.

Also I'd like to run a rheostat knob into my dash that controls the sub volume, is this something I'd have to look for in an amp or something that can be wired up externally? I know there are controls for this in my head unit but I don't want to be bouncing around in menus constantly while I'm driving.
