They've got salsa kits at Trader Joe's, but the vegetables in the plastic containers don't look that fresh. Post some salsa recipes here. 10/17/2007 1:55:38 AM |

Usually I just combine tomatoes, onion, jalapeños, fresh cilantro, cumin, garlic, salt and pepper in a bowl. If I'm feeling randy, maybe I add bell peppers or mangoes or something. 10/17/2007 2:54:00 AM |

I just made some on Monday:
1 can diced tomatoes 1 can rotel tomatoes 2 pablano peppers 2 small yellow onions 1 jalapeno (including seeds and membrane) 1 clove garlic 1/2 bunch cilantro Juice from 1 lime Add salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder to taste.
Very basic recipe I would say, but you can definitely add to it. Adding chipotle peppers are awesome and give that smokey flavor. Definitely want to take out the jalapeno though if you do that as the chipotles and the adobo sauce are hot as crap. 10/17/2007 10:06:11 AM |

homemade salsa is the bomb. i got all my ingredients at the Farmers Market. Shit gets kinda messy if you take the skin off the tomato. 10/17/2007 1:03:32 PM |

my mom makes the most awsome salsa ever. Mom makes it in like half gallon batches but they usually only last about 2 days. In HS, if my friends knew mom had made some there would end up with 10 ppl in my living room fighting over the bowl. Good times
I wish i would cook like my mom 10/17/2007 2:51:53 PM |

People here beg me to make my guac, it's super easy.
2-3 avocados 1 small onion, chopped fresh chopped cilantro, to taste chopped jalapenos or chipolte peppers, to taste 1 tablespoon garlic paste 2-3 teaspoons cumin 1-2 teaspoons black pepper
Mash the avocados with a fork in a bowl. Mix everything else in. Devour. 10/17/2007 8:03:29 PM |

^^^ Oh shit, I forgot the lime. Put some fresh lime in there too. I usually put in about a third of a lime and another third in my salsa.
The lime will also help keep the guacamole from browning immediately. Keeping it covered also helps. But no matter what, fresh guac will turn after 2 or 3 days. 10/17/2007 9:13:41 PM |
