Don't start this veg. idiocy and try to use fast food as a basis for "meat is bad." 10/18/2007 11:09:22 AM |

from what I've heard, it is very much a viable option *if* you make sure you're getting enough protein.
Disclaimer: I love me some pork. And, for that matter, basically all meats. However I'm also not what you'd call "in good shape".

Read an interview with Milo Ventimiglia from the show Heroes where he said something like "you can be a vegetarian and eat pizza everyday." That pretty much sums up my feelings on it. You can have a very healthy diet as a vegetarian, but you're going to have to work a little harder at it than trying to eat healthily as an omnivore. It can be difficult when you're forced to eat out. 10/18/2007 11:11:03 AM |

^^I'm not a vegetarian, I am just trying to understand why they do it. Like do they really think meat is all that bad for you? Cause I don't know.

try reading some books on it to get the actual facts- mad cowboy by howard lyman is one i really like in particular

^^isn't it hard to go out with friends and get something to eat? Esp. if you eat fast food. But I guess if you are deciding between vegetarianism and veganism, then fast food prob went out the window a while back. Like what if someone invites you over for a meal, and they don't know you are a vegatarian, are you gonna refuse the food? Eat it politely, and suck it up? 10/18/2007 11:19:48 AM |

if somebody is having people over and doesnt know, i usually warn them and most times offer to bring something veg-friendly for everyone. also most restaurants have vegetarian dishes (especially if it's an ethnic place) or they can prepare other dishes as vegetarian. there are actually very few places i can think of having to give up entirely since i went vegetarian
plus- its not like there is a "Vegetarian Police" ... i have plenty of friends that dont eat meat most of the time but every few months or so they want hot wings or a steak so they get some 10/18/2007 11:25:21 AM |

I know some vegetarians who think it licenses them to pig out on little debbie all day and then wash it down with a bag of dorritos. They are too lazy to even attempt to fix themselves something healthy. That kind of attitude pisses me off. They are just trying to go meatless because they think it is trendy or their cool scene friends might include them if they do it.

i gave up meat for lent one year, and honestly the hardest part was trying to figure out how to eat around having no meat--vegetarian spaghetti gets old real quick. it's such a big part of our diets that it takes some creativity in the beginning 10/18/2007 1:11:55 PM |

I quit smokinig and went veg same year. I still eat seafood here and there but I never try to talk anyone into quitting eating meat (or smoking). It's not difficult and if you google it you'll find tons of stuff.

Most vegetarians realize this happens from time to time anyway and don't really care. If you put any real amount in there they would notice.10/18/2007 2:16:47 PM |

just to get it out there: most vegetarians didnt stop eating meat because of fast food- its ignorant to assume fast food is the only problem. plenty of nasty shit gets into all other types of food, meat or otherwise. and lots of vegetarians do it strictly for animal rights. people make that decision for a ton of different reasons 10/18/2007 3:02:28 PM |

don't let a friend convince you what to eat and what not to eat. Not all meat is unhealthy. YOU decide what you should eat. The veggie trend is viable for some but humans aren't meant to eat like rabbits. 10/18/2007 4:44:37 PM |

there's a common misconception that it's really difficult to get enough protein on a vegetarian diet. The truth is that most Americans eat WAY more protein than you really need if you're not a bodybuilder. Beans, whole grains, dark green vegetables, peanuts, and most fruits are all good plant sources of protein. Not to mention eggs and dairy for the non-vegans.
I don't know why people hate on vegetarians so much. So someone doesn't want to eat meat. How is that your problem? 10/18/2007 5:03:20 PM |

Squirrel is a omnivore rodent. Eats nuts among other things. Could taste good. Raccoon is a omnivore mammal. Eats anything. Probably tastes bad. Opossum is a omnivore marsupial. Eats anything. Dunno about taste but "Opossum oil (Possum grease) is high in essential fatty acids and has been used as a chest rub and a carrier for arthritis remedies given as topical salves." Nutria is a rodent. Herbivorous. Might taste good.10/18/2007 5:44:26 PM |
