sure, people lived. But in medicine, more emphasis has been put on what it means to "live" recently. Now taken into consideration (for those that can afford it) are things such as comfort, aesthetic appeal, prevention of disease / and other health problems, etc.

sure, people might live without certain medical operations being performed. They might not live as long though.

It's not fair to only consider breathing, eating, and drinking in life. You have to look at quality of life as well.

"supposedly if you don't get them out and they are growing in crooked, they will push the rest of your teeth out of line, cause you pain in your mouth, cause headaches, etc...."

Yes. I never had any problems with my mouth before my wisdom teeth started cutting. I started drooling at night, BAD morning breath, bad breath when they're moving, headaches when they're moving, and crowding of my front bottom teeth. My bottom 2 front teeth point inwards towards my tongue now, but its not bad at all. It was only because my bottom left wisdom tooth was coming in towards my left molars like this kinda:
, _______
/
Use your imagination with my illustration there. Also, just general discomfort was associated when that one tooth was cutting. The other 3 were in perfectly fine with room. He pulled the top left wisdom tooth just because that one would continue to erupt if there wasn't another tooth to push on; and would eventually cause me to bite my cheek. I hope this fixes my popping jaw mess...

I threw up earlier and strained it and made it bleed BAD... then I put my last piece of gauze in and bit on it, fell asleep with it in my mouth and haven't really had much bleeding since. I had some boiullon (sp?) soup, 2 cups of applesauce, another pain pill, and 2 ibuprofen. Finally, its feeling a little better. I can't wait to see the bloody mess on my pillow and face in the morning.

I think that Supplanter had a pretty bad experience...

I felt like such a baby... I never puke. I only puke like once every 2 or 3 years. I think I was swallowing too much blood and the frosty wasn't enough food to take the meds on... so I puked and was crying at the same thing. Then I cried for about 30 mins until I passed out.

I think I'll still eat frosty's... I think I want some ice cream right now.

Thats true. I probably should have just taken one to start with, but I was in bad pain and needed something fast; and figured 2 would be ok. I took one about an hour ago, and I feel ok. I can talk more now, at least! I just have to stop suctioning my mouth... its something I have always done.

I looked like someone beat the absolute **** out of me when I got mine out Waited too long in the first place, was in a lot of pain, they were all bone impacts, and I can't really tolerate pain killers. What was supposed to take 3 days took 2 weeks. Sucked, but glad its OVER!

No kidding, black jaw, black eye, bruised cheek - but I was warned ahead of time.... ehhh..... whatever

^ My goodness, thats terrible. They thought I would be bruised, but that was when he said that it would have to be broken and pulled out in two pieces. Which he didn't end up doing.

Only one side of my face is swollen, so I guess I am a chipmunk with a bad tooth!

^^^ ahahaha

I just remembered that she strapped my hands down right before i went under and said "We're just doing this because sometimes people want to reach up and help us during the surgery." All I could think was "Please God, don't let me be one of those 0.1% of people who are under but feel everything going on."

^ I was worried about that too. Except, they didn't put me under....they just gave me and IV and some other stuff....

about 7 minutes into the operation when he was cutting my gums up, I had to stop him to say "uhhhhhh, I can feel that. A LOT"

then they doped me up some more, and I was fine

My Daddy woke me up at 7:30 to eat applesauce and take more meds. I slept till 12. Now I am trying to eat bouillon soup and crackers... the crackers are only making me nervous. I keep feeling the stitches on the lower socket and it make me think its part of a cracker; but I'm scared to run my tongue across it. I love boiullon soup!

Also, I drooled all night last night. But saw no blood at all!

^^ They strapped my hands down and said "Now, sometimes people like to try to help us during surgery, so that's why we're doing this." I was like

Don't laugh too hard, but I just made an Ensure milkshake. Chocolate Ensure and vanilla ice cream. It is surprisingly good! And I think it only has like 200 calories.

Thanks for the Ensure idea, Supplanter!

Are your stitches the dissolvable kind, or the get removed kind? I had mine removed after a week. That was a strange feeling, having the strings pulled out of that area, but it wasn’t painful.

I was told keep carbonation to a minimum so I had a lot of tea instead of soda and thus still had plenty of caffeine. Because I was going for soft food, I had a lot of milkshakes and thus a lot of dairy. And I obviously didn’t have much solid food. Which all together started causing some constipation. So make sure you don’t over do it on any of these items and have plenty of water too. Although it was most likely due to the fact that I had almost stopped eating for a few days after the meds had torn me up, you still don’t want to have to deal with any health issues other than the mouth one you already have. For a while I was at the point where even ibuprofen was tearing me up, so I could take it and have a great deal of stomach pain but reduced facial pain, or not take it and have my stomach do alright while my face was messed up. That’s where the icepacks were able to do the most good while avoiding meds.

I was luckythough, I didn’t have much facial bruising, it was only on one side, but I did have puffy cheeks.
^hows the healing coming?

I dont think they said anything to me about carbonated drinks... but all I have had is one Sierra Mist Free. I'm still eating bouillon, but I have also graduated to mashed potatoes! I ate some mashed sweet potatoes earlier. I ate some meat for the first time yesterday, the deer was tough, but the pork was a little easier. I swallowed a bunch of pieces that were too big, but wanted some protein. I forgot my Ensure at home, and the apples my Daddy fried for me. But I bought some applesauce today. I also have been able to eat some biscuits! I kinda use a lot of spit with the tops and bottoms of the biscuits, (the one from Bojangles I could only eat the top and center and the egg off it.) I bought some Grands biscuits so that I get something that puts some substance in my stomach to help keep from getting constipated, and its easier to peel the top and bottom off and there's still plenty of bread.
I have a problem though, I keep making suction in my mouth, and I can hardly keep myself from doing it. I'm afraid of dry socket. My other problem is that I have really bad breath. I keep rinsing with salt water and brushing fairly often, but it must be the spotty blood.
Otherwise, I seem to be healing ok. I still have my stitches, they're the dissolvable kind. The paper said 7-10 days.
I'm just kinda trying some different foods, if I don't think they're too risky. I also am laying off the pain meds. I've only had one today, I need another one, but I'm just going to take extra ibuprofen. To look at me, I look ok; you can tell that my left cheek is further out than my right though.

Oh, I almost forgot... I completely forgot that I couldn't spit. I got some dirt in my mouth yesterday, and when I spit; it hurt so bad!! I thought I had broken my jaw. So far, I haven't had any bleeding either. This morning though, I didn't want to eat at all. I had some bouillon at about 12, then some potatoes, biscuit, and a little pork loin at about 2:30, some sweet potatoes at 6:30.

I was eating a Frosty on the way home and felt something weird... one of my stitches fell out. They're weird looking, looks like thick, threaded fishing line. I think he sewed me up with some braided 50 lb. test!

I forgot to tell the other funny story...

I was helping Lucky1 cook last night and I was looking behind a bowl... I kinda forgot about the corner cabinet (thanks pain pills) and I slammed my head into the point of the cabinet! It didn't hurt AS bad when it happened, but now I have a bruise and a sore head!!

UPDATE: No more pain!!! I just ate a Quarter Pounder and fries! First sandwich I have had in a week.

But yeah, it don't hurt anymore, but the huge hole in my mouth still bothers me and feels weird. I can't keep my tongue off it.
