Lookin to take a trip with some people. When I went to the showshoe "lodging" site, there were 15 options, all with 5 different prices and packages each....

anyone ever stay at a place at Wintergreen or Snowshoe that they would recommend??

Only thing required is to be able to ski to/from the slopes and my hotel, so somewhere real close. A kitchen/fridge would be nice too.

Sleep in your car. A mattress in the back of a station wagon pwns all.

the number of people will determine what is your best option - what is the expected range?

A group of us go to snowshoe every year on MLK weekend, first year we stayed in one of the condos but it was pretty cramped so every year since we've gotten one of the houses across from the condos with a hottub, much better, highly recommended

You have to be a little deranged to plan a ski trip to the SE mountains with the way the winters have been the past couple years.

I think Powderridge is where we stayed at Snowshoe. It was great for us because the ski lift was right at the back door, and it was an intermediate slope. Plus, right at dusk, deer came out by the dozens to our balcony and we fed the carrots.

I usually crash at Marlington Motor Inn when I go to Snowshoe. It's around $90 per night for two full beds and it's a half hour drive to the mountain. Drive up friday, snowboard all day saturday, drive back Sunday for ~$95 per person after the taxes. They have a AAA discount btw.

Thats not bad, I took a couple of midweek trips in 04 to snowshoe and stayed at the Spruce Lodge for like $100 for two nights including lift tickets. Was a killer deal, then they demolished Spruce Lodge for better stuff.

I usually just drive up for the day to wintergreen. Get there when the slopes open and ski all day and do some night skiing too. Works best when you have 2 drivers to alternate with.

Damn, we just got our information on going this year. Gonna be $180 a person to go. But we go with about 15 other people. Includes all our food and sleeping for 2 nights. Still have to rent skis and lift tickets. But I'm going to go, we missed it last year.

Last year Kroger had a deal going where you could buy two or four cases of Coke products and get a free Snowshoe lift ticket. It was insane, but true. If anyone sees anything like that this year plz post it up.

You could also present your Harris Teeter VIC card at the ticket window and get $10 off automatically.

This was all last year, but I'm hoping deals will pop up again. I think ticket sales were pretty bad last season with all the man-made snow and warm temps.

Let me know what you find out. Here's a link to last year's Slickdeal discussion:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=370476

Quote :
"There is no Kroger advertising for the deal (I had to ask the manager). The coupon is included on your receipt if you buy the 4 12-packs. Coupon attached. It's a very good deal for me since lift tickets can reach as high as $67. Valid any day from November 22 to December 25 and Monday-Friday from January 2 to April 1."

I called the one on MLK Blvd. and they had no idea what I was talking about. So, I called Six Forks, and they said "We've already had our Coke sale, and we're not having another one for the rest of the year. We had it during the summer this year." She didn't mention if it was the Lift Ticket Coke sale... so I don't know if she knows what she's talking about either. I said "Last year, you did it in October or November", and all she said was "We did it in the summer this year." So, if someone wants to call a different one who may know what they're tlaking about, go right ahead!

lol.
When are you going? Might be better to scour the internet for deals about a week before your trip.

Ok, I called Kroger corporate and she girl said that they usually don't get their lift ticket information until later, but she took my info and forwarded it to someone else who will be calling me back with more information. I'll keep y'all posted.

i stayed there last year when we went to snowshoe. it's really the best deal around considering you're only a 20-30 min drive from the slopes and you don't have to pay an insane amount. i think i payed a total of $60 for two or three nights after splitting it with a friend.

The Kroger deal is back. I picked one up last night at the Kroger inside the beltline on Six Forks.

The ticket is only good Monday through Friday this year (no weekends) and there are a couple of restrictions such as New Years. I can check the receipt in more detail when I get home tonight if anyone needs to know anything specific.

Nobody in the store new anything about the deal except the head manager who "thought it might be going on" but couldn't verify it. There were no signs in the Coca Cola section alluding to the deal either.

Basically, just pick up four 12-packs of coke can products (Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc.) and the lift ticket voucher will be printed on your receipt.

Dr. Pepper is a coke product (it depends where its bottled, actually) I just bought 2 cokes, 2 Dr. Peppers and got a lift ticket. YOU HAVE TO USE A KROGER CARD, AND A DIFFERENT CARD EACH TIME. My buddy came with me and tried it w/ my kroger card, he had to start over (self checkouts) w/ a new card to get his ticket
