Ive said for years, I dont know why dems hate bush. I can understand repubs, but not the dems. Sounds like another president was pushing for regime change.

Forget it, I don't have the patience to do another Bush vs. Clinton thread.

I fold.

Clinton oversaw the war in Kosovo, it's true. And that conflict didn't degrade our international standing, had a minimum of U.S. casualties, and was wrapped up within the time of his administration, instead of being left as a legacy for another president to clean up.

yeah, Clinton said critical things about Saddam, and developed foreign policy regarding Iraq's regional issues

seems like we didnt exist in a vacuum during the 1990's after all.

^ If marching in like a fucking idiot and not doing anything about it are the only two options, Clinton made the correct decision.

Perhaps Clinton was just following Cheney's advice.

^Remind me again what the reasoning for going into Iraq was? The official reason at the time it happened, that is.

^ That was 10 and a half years before the invasion of Iraq you asshat.

P.S. I like how you purposely avoided the question. Very Republicanesque.

^ Yes, the video had the time and date on it--you have a firm grasp of the obvious. And I'm not a Republican, dumbass.

BTW, maybe Bill Clinton from 1998 will convince you.

Quote :
"Together we must also confront the new hazards of chemical and biological weapons and the outlaw states, terrorists and organized criminals seeking to acquire them.

Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade and much of his nation's wealth not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, and the missiles to deliver them [emphasis added].

The United Nations weapons inspectors have done a truly remarkable job, finding and destroying more of Iraq's arsenal than was destroyed during the entire Gulf War. Now, Saddam Hussein wants to stop them from completing their mission.

I know I speak for everyone in this chamber, Republicans and Democrats, when I say to Saddam Hussein: You cannot defy the will of the world.

(APPLAUSE)

And when I say to him, you have used weapons of mass destruction before.

We are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again
[emphasis added]."

Now STFU.

several hundred billions of dollars of our tax dollars and the tax dollars of our children, and their children, and their children, and how many WMDs did we remove from Iraq?

I like how he refused to bold the one part that didn't agree with him. I'll do it for him...

Seems like the problem was mostly taken care of by resorting to... HOLY CRAP!!!!! INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMACY?????? Wow, that almost never works [/sarcasm] I guess Clinton was smart enough to realize that the problem was being handled in a much better way than an invasion would have been handled. But I mean Bush totally made the right decision to go in and not look like a total pussy.

Well, I'll break it down for you: (1) A number of people other than President Bush--including a sitting Democratic president and vice president and the Democrats in Congress that voted to authorize the Iraq invasion--thought that Iraq possessed WMD. And (2) Bush had the courage of his convictions to do something about the alleged WMD in Iraq; Clinton--like too many Democrats over the last couple of decades--was content to just shoot off his mouth but not actually do anything:

Quote :
"And when I say to him, you have used weapons of mass destruction before.

We are determined to deny you the capacity to use them again."

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/01/27/sotu/transcripts/clinton/index2.html

Is that clear enough for you?

^^^ And you can STFU, Kojak--nobody loves you.

The point was and still is that the administration claimed there were WMDs in Iraq and in reality there were none. Congress was given a false report by the administration and because it was false this misled much of Congress into approving the invasion. Even without that, this administration has made countless errors in their prosecution of the war so they're not only liars, they are also incompetent. [/point]

^ It was the same report that the previous administration had used. Be that as it may, I would still like to see an investigation.

I'm absolutely sure they claimed that Iraq had tried to buy uranium from Nigeria and that's what the whole Valerie Plame thing was about. That was a lie.

Yes or No, was this decision made on extremely false, potentially fabricated (referring to Powell's presentation) information?

Would any reasonable person have looked at the data at the time and concluded Saddam was on his way to building the bomb?

If you don't believe that the Bush admin was going to go to war with Iraq no matter what, you're delusional. it had nothing to do with WMDs or terrorism. I'm not sure what it was, but it was either Bush trying to fulfill a personal achievement, or a corrupt deal to make money for his friends in the war business. I doubt we'll ever know the real reason unless Bush or Cheney confesses on their death beds.

How is it that no other countries felt the need to invade Iraq including other countries in the middle east that would be most directly effected by an aggressive Saddam. Usually your enemies enemy is your friend; yet Iran did not seem to thrill about the US liberating Iraq (their natural enemy) from next door.
