So I've noticed that some guys at work in their mid to late thirties have grey hairs. I thought that would start happening until about ten years later than that. Kind of depressing to think in 8 years I could have some grey ones sprouting up. Anyone getting grey hairs yet or noticed this in older relatives?

"Gray" is preferred in America over "grey." FYI.

And I have blond hair, so it doesn't bother me.

I've got a few. My dad started graying at 18 though, so I feel like I've had some extra years. The don't really bother me, and I'm probably just going to let going gray happen naturally.

[Edited on October 29, 2007 at 6:47 AM. Reason : ^ are you really criticising someone over a "prefered" spelling that is perfectly acceptable? wow]

I started graying a tiny bit in college, now its pretty noticeable to me at my temples when my hair grows out. My mom's hair is completely silver (which looks pretty good actually) and I know my dad's hair started graying a bunch in his thirties, so I've got that to look forward to.

good news is balding doesn't run in the family.

Getting? Ha!

I noticed my first couple of gray hairs freshman year of college, and by the time I graduated they were becoming commonplace. At this point I'm 27 and well on my way to having the "salt and pepper" look because the gray has attacked with a vengeance. I'll be lucky if I'm not completely gray by the time I'm 35.

It used to bother me, but it really doesn't anymore. A lot of friends/acquaintances have suggested I go with Just For Men or one of the other gray-concealing hair colors, but it's not worth the effort. I think if anything my face leans toward the young, so I don't think anyone is going to mistake me for a 40-year-old just because I'm going gray. At least I'm not going bald...

My husband is only 25 and he has a nice crop of gray hair on the top of his head. I noticed the first ones coming in back before he turned 21. He doesn't really care about it at all and neither do I. Although, I must admit that where it's starting to thin out a bit scares me because it makes ME feel old that HE's losing his hair.

I don't really care about it that much though. But if I did, at least I'm tall, and few people see the top of my head

ShinAntonio

And just think: You've been wrong your whole life. Does that make you feel better?

I didn't want to do this, but you have challenged my expert opinion. So here it is:

Quote :
"Americans spell it gray except when they imitate the British grey, which is a Standard variant."

http://www.bartleby.com/68/27/2827.html

Through the link below you will see that "grey" is a variant of "gray"--not the other way around.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gray

And--in addition to other sources--if you'd bothered to open a Webster's American Dictionary: College Edition, of course, you would have noticed that "gray" is preferred.

Quote :
"I prefer 'grey', and I'm in America right now. I also prefer 'blonde'."

SymeGuy69

Again, if you will check your Webster's American Dictionary: College Edition, you will see that "blond" is generally used adjectivally--as I used it in the post at issue--and "blonde" is generally used as a noun. ("A woman or a girl having this coloration.")

Your post was egregious because of even more errors. Periods and commas should be placed inside closing quotation marks, not outside them.

Did some of you actually graduate? Damn.

I found my first grey hair when I was 15.

They really aren't anything to get upset over. The appropriate reaction is "Oh. A grey hair. [carrying on]"

yeah, i dont think i could bring myself to use that stuff. it'd probably turn out looking ridiculous. though i thought about it, since im interviewing for new jobs. i probably should just shave it off entirely.

^ Ha! I can picture you trying to convince a potential employer that you're not a skinhead: "Look, I voted for Kerry--I swear! I just wanted to get rid of the gray!" Refer him or her to T-Dub for references.

well, i was talking about my beard .... but, you might be on to something. i gotta make myself stand out somehow. and damned if that wouldnt do it.

on second thought, they'd just think i was from eastern washington -- or, as we like to call it over here, "western idaho"

i do like the TDub reference idea, though. i could just post links to threads where i really shredded. will you be a character witness for me?

One of the few benefits of going gray is that I never get carded. My girlfriend always gives me a hard time about it because she (only one year younger than me) always gets carded whenever we go out...

^^^ Sure. I don't want to see anyone out of work--especially liberals. Without gainful employment, they'll just mooch off the government.
