My parents Hitachi projection TV (HDTV ready) broke. Dad used it as an excuse to buy a new 54 inch samsung HDTV. I can keep the old tv if it can be fixed. The problem is the green convergence and I think it just needs a new green tube/bulb/lens - I just don't know how to install it or uncharge the parts so I don't get shocked. We can negotiate prices..just pm me! Thanks for your help! 10/28/2007 7:21:08 PM |

It's a CRT projection TV and the green CRT died? Yeah... that's not really worth fixing. 10/28/2007 10:11:15 PM |

yea if the green is out on a CRT.. buy a new tv.. if it's just not lining up with the red and blues.. then get it cleaned and realigned.. 10/28/2007 10:29:25 PM |

there's a big difference between convergence problems and being completely out 10/29/2007 12:31:36 AM |

Well, the green is really really messed up on the convergence screen and I can't get it to realign. I've found that this seems to be a common problem with this tv on several websites and has something to do with a burnt board/broken bulb. BUT, I did find some stuff on how to access the repairman's convergence setup, so I might give that a try first but I can't go home and try until tomorrow evening.

Ah, okay, so it's just convergence then? I thought you were talking about needing to replace the green CRT because it was broken or the such. Yeah, try to adjust it using that method, sounds like it should have a good amount of adjustment if it's not too far out of line. 10/29/2007 5:12:12 PM |

it's a board problem. no amount of fiddling with it will fix it.
i had it happen to an old tv. you can get a new mainboard for less than $200 incl. shipping, but i dunno if it's worth it to you.10/29/2007 7:58:53 PM |

I found a site that walks me through the repair of something called convergence IC amps which every website with my model of tv says to replace. I might be foolish, but I've never used solder before...perhaps I should find someone who can...
This is the website. I'm going home tonight and opening up the back to see if I can find those two little black chips and get the part # of them for my specific tv...

Yeah...the username lives up to the name.
My dad insisted on "helping" me remove the ic convergence chips tonight. In the process, he broke a small connection and may have messed up the holes where the pins go. Now I have to figure out how to repair the small connection. 10/30/2007 8:33:59 PM |

I can take a look at it if you'd like, depending on how badly you've damaged the traces it could be a pain to repair. I typically do component replacement soldering jobs like that for around $50 start to finish if the boards are already exposed and the replacement parts on hand. 11/1/2007 4:39:12 AM |
