"Johnny Cash was arrested in Starkville, Miss., on May 11, 1965, for public drunkeness. He wrote the song, “Starkville City Jail,” and performed it at San Quentin State Prison on Feb. 24, 1969. Cash played at Mississippi State University again in 1970 and gave many officers involved with his arrest front row tickets to the performance. It’s about time the community formally appreciated the depth and humanity of the Man in Black."

Starkville City Jail was always one of my favorite songs by him and this is one of the coolest ideas for a festival I've seen in a long time.

Thanks to roguewolf for pointing this out to me.

This isn't your run of the mill festival. I wish I'd known about this one earlier.

per Mapquest, so it'd probably be a 9.5.10.0 hour drive since they always assume you're a 80 year old grandma in a Caprice with their estimates.

Its 11 hours to Starkville from Raleigh. I would know since I live there.

I'll be going to the festival! I am trying to volunteer, but I will be there on Saturday for sure. I'll be sure to try to take some pictures for you guys.

Who would have thought living in Starkville would actually amount to something?

I think my point is that i feel like johnny cash is the kinda fella that would rather own up to his mistakes and take them head on then be pardoned for some little bullshit charge in the past.

i know i fucked up... i wish it didn't happen.... but i own it and take responsibility

^^ I think you're missing the point.

I don't think Johnny Cash or anyone else really cares (or cared) if he gets pardoned for picking flowers on a summer night in 1965, it is just a really clever excuse to have a festival.

^ you wear a grill. your opinion doesn't count.
