Without losing any data... It's the primary boot partition. I know this is easy to do with partition magic (or was on XP last time I used it anyways) but the version of the software that works on server 2003 costs like $600 if I remember correctly. Any other ideas that won't involve me completely rebuilding this server? 10/30/2007 10:36:33 AM |

get a live bootdisk that has that program on it and you'll be fine. 10/30/2007 10:41:05 AM |

nah not raid on this drive anyways so should be fine.. I'll look into that. I have a copy of the "ultimate boot disk" around here somewhere, do you know if it's on there?
Thanks. 10/30/2007 10:53:10 AM |

Won't be using a new hard drive. For some reason this bastard was partitioned/installed with only like 10gigs on the partition with the OS on it and after installing exchange (just the core files went to that drive, all the binaries went to another one) it's down to only a few hundred megs left free... Anyways, I need to use ghost to make a backup anyways so maybe I can talk the boss into a new drive afterall, we shall see
oh, and smoothcrim, forgot to call you back the other day, I used synthetic in the bike the one time I changed the oil.. how's it treating you?
[Edited on October 30, 2007 at 11:17 AM. Reason : You need to adjust the timing chain tensioner as well regularly.. it's not a hydraulic one] 10/30/2007 11:15:00 AM |

Will do, I've been meaning to implement Norton ghost on everything around here anyways so I think I'll talk him into something large enough to store images of everything.. That sure will save me a hell of a lot of time.
Now, time to go storage shopping 10/30/2007 12:48:36 PM |

GParted Live CD

If you have a test machine I would run through it there but the program itself is pretty straight-forward. Works almost identical to Partition Magic. 10/30/2007 11:48:56 PM |

^^Hah, stole my answer. Used this on a ton of desktops. If not raided, should work all the same.
Easy to use as well. 10/31/2007 12:15:23 PM |

It keeps giving an error that it can't "shrink filesystem" and another error that it can't "grow filesystem to fill partition" ... The machine I'm testing on only has one partition on a 100gb drive, just trying to shrink it to like a 80gb partition just to be sure this is going to work right...
