I get a call from 877-866-6536 and they say its Sprint and we need to change our password/PIN number for some new FCC rule supposedly...well when you actually call a real Sprint number you get an automated system that asks for English or Spanish...then asks for Sales, Customer Care, etc...but if you call this number its just a live call center...I googled the number and lots of people have reported the same thing...and a whitepages.com reverse lookup yields nothing...the people in the call center are unprofessional as hell and its pretty clear that they are trying to pull a scam...I'd guess if they got you to supposedly change a PIN number it would require you giving them your current/existing PIN number (TaxID/Social) in which case they'd call the real Sprint to charge phones to your account

Anyway have fun talking shit to these douchebags cause they should all die

I asked the guy to send me a link about which FCC regulation supposedly requires this and he told me to go to sprint.com, search for 'FCC' and click the first link, which is just somebody's bio and has jack shit to do with his supposed FCC regulation...when I asked him for his employee # he put me on hold (no Sprint ads on hold, what a surprise)...some lady came on...she said it was the guy's first day and he was nervous...she said sometimes they call when the account shows an overcharge...then I hear him in the background saying "no its the FCC" and she proceeds to put me on hold again then comes back with the FCC shit

I called back and said I needed to get transferred to extension 6591 (just an extension I made up)...they said "We do not transfer to extensions" or something...anyway

I'd get as much info from them by playing along and file with both the FCC and FTC (fraud over the phone = interstate fraud)

hell yeah...you know your shit on this topic ambrLOLsia...i accused them of attempted wire fraud but that may or may not technically be one of the things they're guilty of

i am going to call later and play along, just giving them completely fabricated information

maybe i'll get some of my friends in China to Skype those fools

With types like these, I just try to get as much info as possible out of them so as to give the authorities some info they can actually work with. Since they have nothing but time, wasting my time fucking with them is a greater loss on my end than theirs

i dont even answer calls from 1-888 1-800 1-866 1-877 etc numbers....

if its important they will leave a message. 95 out of 100 times its just a bs call anyways

Call back and tell them you thought it was a phone sex line. Ignore their denials and keep asking what they're wearing. See where things lead.....

for everybody saying post results...i pretty much did post them in my first post...now its up to you to call them and report your own results

i will call them again after work when i have time to waste 10 minutes talking to them and i'll post those results as well

i know the conspiracy theories are cool and all, but this is actually legit.

this is something they are doing for ALL sprint/nextel customers and has to be done as of Dec. 1

u might want to call their regular customer care line and set your PIN id up through there though.

its legit for a company to call you from a phone number that Sprint doesn't recognize and ask you for your social security number and password over the phone huh? When you ask for their employee # they say "we don't have employee #'s" and when you ask them to transfer you to another extension they say "we can't transfer you to another extension"...Hey I've got some beachfront property in Arizona if you're interested...

seriously though, Sprint is trying to get their customers to move to a 6-10 digit password...Nextel already has one...they're trying to continue to merge Sprint and Nextel...its because they don't want information directly tied to you, ie social security number, federal tax ID #, etc, to be able to be used for identification...kind of a privacy thing

HOWEVER

in this case, scammers / fraudlent motherfuckers are aware of what Sprint is doing...so it seems they're calling people and supposedly changing their passwords...course what they're really doing is just saying whatever they need to to get your "old" password...so they can call Sprint and send themselves phones and charge them to your account

The fact that you can't find any information about this on the interweb either means it really is completely legit (nothing to talk about on the internets), or it's too new of a scam.

well Sprint themselves say that phone number if not registered to them

All the other things I've seen about it are fairly recent http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-866-6536, like nothing before September 07

I'm imagining its a scenario like this: lets say you do online banking through your bank...transferring funds, looking at account charges, etc...well lets say every 60 days you have to change your password...this would be like some strange number that doesnt show up on reverse phone lookups asking you for your old password and asking you to set a new password

every time I'd ask someone at "Sprint" to send me something in writing they said they "couldn't"

sorry, its dec 8th, not dec 1st.

that number may very well be a scam though. Sprint should never ask for a full SSN (just the last 4) unless you are doing a credit check.


so yes hambrosia, this is something they are doing for all their customers.

Scammers profit on things like that. People get too comfortable when they hear it will be a change, and are willing to give up more info.
