It's a fire in Orange County.
12 guys were laying hose up a hill to catch a spotover from a larger fire.
A hose ruptured and they lost their water.
The crewboss ordered them up to the hilltop to deploy their fire shelters.
They all got in their shelters.
Helicopter came and dropped water around them.
They all lived.

Nerdchick was telling me about these a couple months ago.

One of the guys on her AmeriCorps crew this past summer is/was one of those crazy bastards. I forget whether or not he was a jumper, but she had some good stories from him.

Firefighting isn't crazy...now jumping out of a plane to put out a fire...that's crazy.

We just got $16000 worth of new fire shelters for our district.
The old shelters had a bad habit of peeling apart under direct flames...
