As Margera flailed on the floor, his defense attorney, Pamela Mackey, said: "Don't hurt his arm."
About eight Jefferson County deputies restrained Margera and carried him off to jail.
Margera faces a sentence of two- to six years to life on each charge. If he's given probation, it can be 10 years to life, and he must register as a sex offender.
Mackey refused to comment today, but Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey said: "It's definitely a serious verdict."
"Not knowing him, I don't know if that's typical," said Storey, referring to Margera's reaction in the courtroom. "Perhaps he was taken totally by surprise."
Storey said prosecutors "couldn't prove one count beyond a reasonable doubt" but that on the other two counts, "the evidence was strong."
Margera had been charged with three counts of sexual assault on a child in connection with a photo and autograph-signing event at Colorado Mills mall skate park in August 2006.
Prosecutors contended that Margera groped and grabbed the breasts and buttocks of two 12-year-old girls and one 14-year-old girl.
Margera was "extremely intoxicated" when the groping incident occurred, prosecutor Jim Stanley said in opening remarks at Margera's trial.
Mackey had told the jury that Margera was portraying his "goofy, outrageous and vulgar" Don Vito character.
"That's what got the laughs," Mackey said. "It was entertainment." " |
