Heard Big Bang Theory and Heroes have already shutdown production yesterday. I think many shows are good till Christmas, but after that, we could have a bit of a wait to see the last half of the seasons. Wrestling, the Tonight Show, Daily Show, and other shows are going to be hit almost immediately. Soap operas usually are ahead one week, but if it lasts longer than a week, the hens won't know what to do without their dumb daytime shows.
If this lasts we may see the networks go almost total reality shows midseason. BLECH 11/3/2007 11:03:38 AM |

I don't give a shit, I don't watch much television anymore anyway.
It sucks for the writers if they're really getting shafted, but then again what exactly is it that they do? They scribble down some words and hope it forms a coherent plot? Forgive me if I don't think that that should be a high-paying job. 11/3/2007 11:12:19 AM |

So I went for lunch on the WB lot today...I crossed the picket line but in reality, I ain't no writer so it's ok. I honked though...then on my way home I passed Universal/NBC...and honked at them....then CBS is across the street so I honked at them. This is fun. I'll take my camera tomorrow maybe...I'm too lazy now. 11/5/2007 6:08:27 PM |

For the most part, I think it's safe to say that between the directors, writers, and actors...the writers are THE most important part. Just because everyone THINKS they can write, doesn't mean they can. And writing to appeal to the masses is 100x harder than acting for them.11/5/2007 6:16:36 PM |

^^ I was thinking along the lines of something like Battlestar Galactica where the executive producers have actually written episodes before.
Like "33" which was the best episode of the series in my opinion was written by Rob Moore

Actually, there are a lot of exec producers who are writers as well...so those people are out too.

Nothing. According to my best friend she's already gotten requests/notifications of freelancers wanted...I mean it might be a good way to break into the industry (and there are about 5 gazillion of those people out here) but you'd get paid shit (there won't be a union to back you up), fellow writers/producers etc aren't gonna feel to favorable about you cross the picket line and when the strike IS over, you'll have a hell of a time becoming a member of the WGA, and considering that most people can't write for shit (although they all think they can... I mean think about the crap that gets the greenlight 'Viva Laughlin' and those are supposed to be tried and true writers) those shows, should they use new writers and their new scripts, well..they stand to lose their audience come time for the strike to be over. For most shows there's a story line that needs to be followed and the writers usually write for what they know is going to be in the future, but new writers can't mind read.
BTW - Every couple minutes or so as I'm sitting here in my apt, I hear a bunch of horns 11/6/2007 4:46:26 PM |

I thought that in the previous writers strike Letterman did shows w/o writers. This time they are all on reruns. WEAK! I was so looking forward to the super poorly written shows this week, then all I get are these stupid reruns, good grief I have Opra on right now. OPRA people, the horror, maybe I need to buy cable to get some better background noise ( I just leave the TV on for the ambiance )
This lasts much longer I'm just getting rid of my TV all together. 11/8/2007 1:26:38 AM |

I usually wait until a show I like comes out on dvd anyways so that I can watch it on my own time or watch consecutive episodes. My one exception is probably Lost because I know that if I don't at least see it the next morning via abc.com my sister will call and say "OMFGBBQ did you see what happened?!?" 11/8/2007 10:07:12 AM |

If this strike goes on enough to really mess up full seasons of shows:
Wonder how long before the networks come up with a ton of reality shows, games shows, and other no-writers-needed programs? 11/8/2007 1:28:27 PM |

How about the studios just pay the writers more per episode and skip residuals altogether? 48% of writers are unemployed at any given time...I mean no offense to them, but they picked that career field, they should have known what they were getting into. 11/8/2007 1:34:46 PM |

except for the fact that they didnt
the whole issue is the internet and the networks/production companies putting the shows online with no compensation
they've only been doing that for the last year or so 11/8/2007 1:37:25 PM |
