I will try and complete this over the next three weeks to a month.
The equipment is lining up to look like: Trunk: Memphis 2500d or 4kw Memphis M3 Mojo 15'' x2 Memphis 1000x4 Memphis 400x2 JL Audio 250/1 JL Audio 8w7
Speakers: A/D/S 346 cs Alpine Type R 6.5 coax Elemental Designs 6.5'' bass drivers
HU: Alpine IWA-W200
The box will be 6 cu.ft. ported, tuned to 30hz with 2 15'' subs. .9 cu.ft sealed with an 8w7.
I picked up a couple of MA audio 15'' subs as space holders till I get the memphis equipment. These will be run off a 1000W RMS amp.
And sort of how it will look
I can only handle a stereo for so long before it needs to change. Maybe this time I will be satisfied. I should hit about 155-157db with the 15''s. They will be on a switch, so the 8w7 will be for normal listening, and the "loud" button" will make you shit yourself.

The "funk" switch is almost $40, and I don't have a place for it.
The Maxima runs/ ran. The fuel pump died.
I have the camera because the HU had and input for it. It was $30, and allows me to back up to walls very very closely. Like 1'' away. Also, I can tell how close people are when tailgaiting, as to properly execute a brake check.
Other boxes I have done, just a few.

well, I was a carmenter, and turned my spare bedroom into a woodshop, so I can teach him some skills. Also, a brad nailer is 500000X better than screws for holding a box till the glue sets. Caulk is a good way to seal inside corners for a cheap box though. Why do you think all the boxes from BB and CC come that way.
The funk button is for the radio on cars that came with it. 11/5/2007 10:04:58 PM |

Do you plan to compete with this? I'm just wondering why not a single 15 and tune it to 15 hz or something. Box size should be similar, spl should still be in the mid/upper 140s (just "gut feeling" calculations Im doing here). 11/5/2007 10:31:51 PM |

I do make FG boxes, but I'm too busy to deal with them right now. I have a few pictures, but they aren't uploaded on any sites.
Chance- I may compete with this, but that isn't a goal in the design. I didn't calculate it for max SPL. I went throught a number of design ideas, 4 8w7s, 4 10w6s, 2 18w6, 2 15w3, 2 Assassin 15, and ended up with the Memphis as what I was mostly looking for. This is mostly a show car, and demos some of my skills in construction fab and install. Everyone says to go FG for show, but I personally hate most everything I see that is done. Maybe I'm strange, but I like angular figures. I'm trying to pack a lot of speaker in a finite space. That may not make a ton of sense, or be rational in my design, but it's what I'm going for. 11/5/2007 10:49:24 PM |

I roughly finished the box today. I haven't worked out any of the trim panels yet.
The holes in the middle were where I was going to put my ports (3'' diam), but realized they wouldn't fit, after I drilled a hole for each one. Used a dowel and glue to fill each hole. It is solid now. The box came to 5 cu.ft for the 15''s and .8 cu.ft for the 8''. That accounts for internal bracing, but not the sub displacement. I will need to rework port length before I put them in. I also haven't put any finished edges on the box. I could have gotten the 6 cu.ft if I had taken the box all the way to the back of the trunk, but then I couldn't have gotten the box in the car with the c-pillar bar in. The box's trim panels will be wrapped in red and black micro suede.
My ideas keep growing, and getting more expensive. What I am now thinking. /still memphis MCD2500- 2500W RMS 15 M3 Mojo x2 MCD5004- 125x4 RMS Big Belle 1600- 75x4 RMS + 450 RMS sub JL 8w7

And with a bottle of Jager for comparison.
These will be powered by two Memphis Big Belle 1300W 5 channel amps. The HU is going to be a Kenwood Excelon 8019.

Sometimes I use a router and circle jig. Other times I just use a jig saw and follow the circle I drew with a compass. It really isn't that difficult, especially after a couple hundred times. 1/6/2008 5:56:52 PM |

You gonna ghetto proof this one? Make it so if you try to remove it from the car people slice themselves open and bleed to death and such? Perhaps make it so when you pull the box out of the car a shotgun goes off removing the person from the gene pool?
There are many options... You lost your last one to theft didn't you? 1/6/2008 8:29:35 PM |

I lost the last Head Unit to theft. Didn't touch anything else. I'm making this head unit damn near imposible to take out without taking apart the dash. The box though big, will be like a puzzle to get out with all of the trim pieces and bolts. There is only 1'' of clearance as it is to get it in, and there will be no visible screws for any subs. 1/7/2008 12:02:00 AM |

Hahah, sweet!
My friend has a multi-level defense system for his pickup (that he's stuffed lots of good audio and electrical goodies into). If you try to remove the head unit, the metal on it will slice you open (he used a dremel to sharpen the entire thing into a razor at the edges). If you trip the car alarm, you will go deaf (it emits a sound at something like 3000hz or something ridiculously annoying, blasts it at max volume which, in his truck, would probably be enough of a deterrent to leave the truck alone). I think he's hidden some other fun razorblades in there too, and you can only work on the audio system in that car with knowledge of wtf he did and a pair of heavy leather gloves.
I dunno, I think your way works too and will result in fewer lawsuits. :beatup 1/7/2008 1:25:54 AM |

Just tell your frient that if anyone breaks into his vehicle and hurts themselves, he can go to jail. You aren't allowed to trap your cars. The only thing you are allowed to do is a stupid loud alarm.
My other defense agains theft is that air ride goes in, in June. The alarm goes off, it triggers the digital controller. Car starts moving up and down. 1/7/2008 1:32:26 AM |
Mindstorm All American 15858 Posts user info edit post |
^ Yeah he knows that. I think he's banking on the fact that he knows all the cops to help him out there.
Like I said, it does have the audio alarm though. Perhaps a minor "papercut" after that would just discourage the person and make them run away, haha. 1/7/2008 1:49:01 AM |
