So, my car was broken into some time today. Parked at 8:30 am, went to work, school, work, all on campus, come back at 10:30pm and my window is broken.
Basic smash and grab. Took the HU, and cut the wires. Morons left the Ipod, speaker crossovers, some tools, 100 CDs, and some other stuff.
Managed to tear up the door card, tear the leather on my seat, and make me need new window tint. HU was an Alpine IWA-W200 DD touch screen.








This is how I roll.


Looks like I am starting my entire system from scratch.

BTW, if you see one of these floating around for sale in any market, let me know. Whether it might possibly be mine, or a new one.

I was parked on the 4th floor of the colisium parking deck, front corner, out in the open.

What sucks is that there is over $2500 in damage and stolen property.

I hope they are holding a duck hunt gun if the police ever find them.

I had everything insured. Now to see what they will pay for.
I get to deal with that tomorrow. Such as a new seat, since my leather is torn, a new door card since mine is beat up, a new head unit, reverse wiring harness, RCA's, tint.
I even had a rider policy incase this happened, now I get to see if it is worth it.

I'd be willing to bet it happened after 6 or 7 when they got a full open view of the top deck, minimal cars and people. A simple smash and grab, even if it made noise (undoubtedly), the people probably wouldnt even be on the top deck to see it. I'd park it somewhere closer to whichever building you go to after 5 if you could.

I had an ipod adapter hooked to the HU. The Ipod was under the center console, and reasonably well hidden. When they pulled the HU out, the ipod was pulled under the dash, and they didn't see it.

I teach on campus from 8:30 till 11:30, have class from 11:45 till 5:45, and work from 6:00 till 10:30. There is no time in my day to check on my car, yet alone move it.

Shit dude that sucks. Makes me consider putting the old stock head unit back in my car sometimes, or perhaps using a dremel tool to sharpen the edges of the metal on the head unit so that people slice themselves open immediately when trying to steal shit from my car.

This is one of the reasons I don't like leaving my car in the Colisseum deck, no fucking security once everybody goes home. Sketch fuckers will smash and grab anything these days.

Hopefully insurance covers you, and whoever stole your head unit dies by smiting.

wow that really sucks...i guess i got lucky because when i got to school this morning my window wouldnt roll up (now fixed) and at the time i didnt have a chance to fix it so i just parked on the top deck hoping no one would mess with it. i couldnt take everything that was valuable just because i couldnt fit it all in my backpack but luckily no one took anything.

I had my 944 turbo broken into when I left it on the side of I40 (by the 440 splits) for 5 hours (bad crank position sensor). It wasn't fun trying to talk to the insurance people. They broke the car's rear diffuser and stole the head unit as well as the infinity bass link. Bad idea to leave them in the car in retrospect.

Sucks to have it happen, all the worse if it's at your house. The worst part is that they'll probably never be caught.

just called XM to get stolen radio deactivated and new radio activated, all went well until they transferred me over to the dept where they tag the radio as stolen so noone else can get service on it and they hung up on me. guess they want all the suscribers they can get, thieves and all.

After my estimates, it looks like close to $5000 in loss/ damage. That is with a dealership quote.

The insurance company is sending me a check for the physical damage to the car, somewhere around $3500, for repairs.

The aftermarket is still TBD as far as how it is handled. I may get a check, they may want to send me parts, they may have me buy everything, and then submit reimbursement. I will find out later this week on how that will go.

When I had all of my stuff stolen, the insurance company just told me to go to a "preffered" audio shop and have them write up an estimate for replacing everything... didn't require receipts or anything...

It's how I got out of big systems... b/c I was able to finally cash out without loosing any money.

could be worse...had the new radio, subs and amp stolen out of my RX-7 about 3 weeks after getting it installed....only thing was that they took the rest of the car as well

but it was really funny when a year and a half later I got a red light camera ticket for the plates that were stolen...camera was in western maryland....car was stolen in Rhode Island

oh, and I had left my wallet in the car too...good times
