bossman tossed out an HP pavilion zv6000 series laptop with:
15.4" WXGA screen 2ghz AMD Athlon 64 100gb IDE hard drive 512mb DDR ram some crappy video DVD burner PC express slot (or whatever it's called) remote control (it has an IR receiver)
anyway...the only thing wrong with it is the backlight (i think)...i can see stuff on the screen, it's just nearly black...does that mean it's the tube itself or the whole inverter? inverter is $28 off ebay, while the tube is only $16...if i don't need to spend the extra $12, i don't want to
also, suggestions as to what i can use this for...it weighs a freakin' ton (seriously...it's about 2 years old, and is by far the heaviest laptop i've held in nearly 10 years...heavier than my roommate's 17" monster, even) 11/7/2007 9:21:18 PM |

A very dark but functioning screen should mean it's just a bad inverter ... yea pick one up from ebay and install it, good choice!
HPs always tended to be on the heavy side, but you're making it sound like a cinder block 11/7/2007 9:27:29 PM |

i'm probably exaggerating, but it just feels insanely heavy and bulky...big margins around the screen make it seem bigger, i think
also, inverter for $18 if i don't mind it coming from hong kong, and only 63 reviews:

Slightly sketch with only 63 feedback, although 100% so that's ok ... but honestly it's not like you can lose money. These Asian joints usually just sell cheaper because they can, after all, they make it all to begin with! 11/7/2007 9:37:52 PM |
