I have a pair of the Aasics Kayano Gel's and they have gotten a bit dirty... There is a lot of cloth on them which is obviously the dirtiest. I am tempted to throw them in the wash as I have done with other shoes, But I was wondering if it would mess the shoe up? These shoes were about $125 so I don't want to ruin a good pair of shoes (even though they look like shit now).

Thoughts? I imagine I will end up throwin' them in the wash soon, but someone warn me first if they have done this and ruined their shoes.

i think it's okay as long as you put them in with a load of towels or something... and let them air dry. no dryer

There is a very good chance they will be ruined or become chronically smelly if you do it, but might as well try if they are unwearable and "cleaning" of the outside won't do the trick. Definitely air dry over a vent.

if it's just the outside, could you use some sort of carpet/clothing stain remover instead of washing the whole shoe?

Not trying to be a bitch, but at the end of the day (keeping in mind you paid $TEXAS$ for these CRAP shoes), they are still Asics. Wow.

Can't believe you paid $125...I could buy almost 2 pairs of Forces or a NICE pair of J's.

The only brand of shoes i've ever run in are Asics (in competition too) I like the Asics Gts

^^^^He didn't ask for your opinion on his shoes - just how to clean them

I'd handwash them before throwing them in the washer.

The shoe store I used to buy my shoes from had a great product for cleaning them. I'd handwash them in the sink using it and it really helped. I'd then let them dry out by the fireplace (we had a woodburning stove) or chimenea. I didn't really care about how my shoes looked, after all they were running shoes. But they'd get saturated with mud and rain after running on some cross-country courses and I had no choice but to wash them.

The store is in CT though and I can't remember the name of the product...

I'd use regular laundry detergent and handwash them in the sink. Then find a way to dry them out really well.

or go to a shoe store and find an employee who can give you advice.

You have no idea what the fuck you're talking about you daft cunt. Seriously, you deride Kayanos as "crap shoes" and talk about Forces?

Those shoes are expensive because they are designed for serious runners. I imagine you wouldn't know anything about that. However, I will grant you that your Forces and Js are great footwear while ingesting the sperm of various walk-on athletes, so keep on trucking.

asics actually makes some nice running shoes.

nikes are shit though. poorly constructed and terrible in terms of how they fit and support your foot.

I use liquid ivory soap, a little water, and a toothbrush and just scrub the dirt off them, and then let the shoes airdry. Sounds like a woman's answer, I know, whatever - it works

I'd been running in New Balances for the last couple of pairs, but I picked some a pair of Saucony shoes last time, and like them a lot.

if you are serious about running, you need to get fitted.

unless the store said that asics are the only pair of shoes designed for you, then i doubt thats the only pair you "run" in.

try different shoes.

i have asics, indeed they are awesome, i got mine on sale for $30, they were like $75-$80.

^ yeah, definitely true. Fleet Feet in the people's republic is very good for getting fitted. Based on my level of overpronation and gait analysis, they put me in Sauconys (forget the model), and no more IT band syndrome!

i got a pair of new balance running shoes the day after christmas last year on sale for 29.99...normally like 80....they are ok but not as good as the last pair of nike running shoes i had...they are not cushiony enough...i've been told by many folks that asics are the way to go if you run...i usually run for about 3 miles a day when i do run....i'm gonna do the same thing i did last year and buy a pair the day after christmas....might get 2 pairs just cause 1 pair of shoes a year with all the walking/running i do isnt enough

as for washing them i just do the liquid soap and tooth brush thing and its always worked really well

ran them in the washer a few times and it kinda works, but it does more harm than good to the shoe

cant really comment on the "getting fitted" thing...i've never had any problems before so i dont see any reason to change now...i mean i dont run a fucking marathon but i do a pretty good bit(when i'm not busy with school about 40 miles a week or so)...plus it sounds expensive and i'm a college student

your best bet is to get properly fitted for the right shoes or you're going to wind up with a lot of pain.

If you're running 3 miles/day then you should be probably be wearing a new pair every 3-4 months. They will start to loose their support if you run too many miles in them.

I wash my shoes in the washer when they need it. Just make sure to wash them with something like towels (you can mess your washer up if they are flying around). I also put them in zipper mesh bag (like you would wash a bra or sweater in) that I bought at walmart.

I always wash my tennis shoes. Take out the insole and the laces and throw them in with some towels on delicate wash. Let the air dry over a vent.

Are there any good places in Raleigh to get fitted? (Or Fayetteville for that matter). I run a lot, not because I want to, but because I have to. I might as well have good shoes while I do.

The only place I ever went for shoes was the Athlete's Foot beside Old Navy in Fayetteville.... no longer an option since it closed. I like Fleet Feet shoes - I've only been to the one in Hickory, but there's one in Raleigh in the Whole Foods shopping center on Wade Avenue.

They're awesome, they put you on a treadmill and you can see the way your foot moves from the inside out, and those guys know more about feet than just about anyone I've ever met. If you're serious about running, it's worth the trip. Shoes go from about $80-$130

The Athletes Foot in Cameron Village performs gait analyses and fits runners to shoes.

I used to work there and can personally vouch for the level of expertise the shoe technicians have there. Trust me, I'm not usually the type of person that would just plug a store because I work there. I just know for a fact that other surrounding running stores (Fleet Feet especially) have all offered us (Athlete's Foot employees) jobs because they know that we know our shit.

Real runner's don't wash their shoes. They're gonna get dirty regardless. My guess is this guy is using these shoes just to walk around. In a way I agree with Wolfpckslut17, no point in paying that type of money for shoes you're gonna use to walk to class. Get yourself a pair of Keds or Easy Spirits for that.

With that aside, the Kayano are excellent shoes for the medium to heavy runner who overpronates (also see ProGrid Hurricane 9). They have been for several years. Worth every penny.

Also, Nike's for Training suck ass. Unless you are a neutral runner with almost flawless form, they ain't worth shit.
