go down to king street and stop by the silver dollar. Tell, Calhoun, the guy in the leather jacket guarding the door that you know Chandler. then look for a group of people taking way too many pictures and ask for Chandler, tell him you know Jeepin4x4, profit. 11/9/2007 8:32:20 AM

eat everywhere, because all of the food rocks. Cupcakes on King St. for cupcakes, obviously, Hominy Grill on Rutlidge for breakfast, Rooftop bar at the Vendu Inn, Vickery's for a good college bar and great food, and 82 Queen on Queen St. for a swanky date, make reservations. 11/9/2007 9:33:08 AM

i ate at "Coast" last time i was there... i was with 8 other people, we all ordered different plates and everyone agreed it was the best food we had had in a LONG time. i have to recommend.
Charleston is one of the best places to visit. Great scenery (tons of CoC girlies ), and lots of southern history. Long days of checking out historical spots and even longer nights, GREAT beaches in the summer as well. Charleston, SC gets my full approval and I go any chance I get. 11/9/2007 10:21:11 AM

For some reason there are a lot of food places here in Charleston that people who visit want to go to or think are great (like hymans), when they are mostly places with overpriced and lower quality food that locals do not go to. 11/10/2007 6:25:25 AM

Bring a bike. Follow the signs from the Interstate to Market St. You'll get off the highway and come to an intersection with a KFC on one corner and a Church's Chicken across the street. Get out of your car and ride your bike in circles in the intersection with the rest of the locals.
A few blocks down is a Piggly Wiggly. Go there after dark and hang out in the parking lot. 11/10/2007 3:19:54 PM

I don't know if that place was really haunted but it's certainly fucking creepy.
One of the rooms was lined with metal inside and supposedly housed about 30+ people it was about the size of one and a half of my bedrooms. Imagine that with no running water or AC in a Carolina summer. ![](images/sick.gif) 11/11/2007 12:10:34 AM

Quote : | "Basic History of the Old City Jail:
Charleston authors/historians/tour guides Mark R. Jones and Rebel Sinclair hosted this investigation, and provided historical context. The first structures were erected on the site in 1738, as the property was used as a workhouse for slaves and makeshift hospital for "paupers, vagrants, and beggars." Criminals were kept separate from non-offenders, and were punished with shackles, whippings, and deprivation of food and water. As the operation expanded over the years, and numerous structures were built then demolished, or burned, tortures and executions at the site increased. These included being burned at the stake, branded, drawn and quartered, or having one's ear nailed to a post (until the ear was finally sliced off; often used for horse thieves).
The present structure was built in 1790 as a jail and asylum. Though it was intended to hold around 128 prisoners, over 300 were frequently kept there. In some rooms, prisoners were locked in cages, barely the size of a person's body, packed in like sardines. Disease was rampant, and tortures continued. Rapes of both men and women were common. During its operation until 1939, over 10,000 people died on the property.
Notable inmates include numerous pirates, Civil War soldiers (including survivors of the 54th Mass., as seen in the movie GLORY) and serial killers John and Lavinia Fisher. The Fishers ran a boarding house and murdered many patrons, motivated by robbery. Lavinia Fisher is widely considered the first known female serial killer in America. The Fishers were kept at the jail until their hanging on February 18, 1820. " |
