Group psychology is much different from individual psychology, group intelligence is much different than individual intelligence. In general I'd say the large mass is dumber than the individual. It's behavior is certainly much, much worse.

i would say the intelligence of the group is limited by the lowest intelligence of of any of its members, but i think its more of an additive (or multiplicative) effect - thus the group mentality isn't just dumbed down to the level of its dumbest member, it is dumbed down even further by each successive dumb member by the magnitude of their dumbness.
