What exactly constitutes a conviction? Do you have to be tried and found guilty by the court for the charge or are you also convicted if you plead to a lesser offense, such as a a felony reduced to a misdemeanor? Should you check yes and explain you will discuss this during the interview or argue semantics if they ever challenge your "no" response? 11/12/2007 11:32:29 PM

NO means NO.
Id put my money on that if you plead to a lessor charge you were convicted of that lesser charge. 11/12/2007 11:39:17 PM

You plead guilty/not guilty/alford to each particular charge, not to a range. And yes, a conviction is once again the court saying you fucked up and done did something illegal. Just look yourself up in the records of where you did something. 11/12/2007 11:52:40 PM

wake county has an online public record thingamajigger
^I know, so if you used it, you'd best put that charge/conviction on your application so you don't go through the whole 'I thought it didn't mean I was convicted spiel' when you get fired all of a sudden when they find out.
