I mean, I guess I understand the need for this practice. Kind of. I mean, cows got alone just fine for years and years without people sticking their arms in between their booty flaps. I guess with new technology (arm condoms), new things are possible for different reasons.

and cows got along just fine before people tried to get milk from them.
It's all about milk production now. The whole reason for this is to check for pregnancy, and if the cow is pregnant that means more cows and more milk.
