does anyone have any experience with these places or know which places to automatically avoid?(i am pretty sure yall dont like dealerships) state farm told me i could go anywhere i wanted but if i didnt go to one of these places i'd have to get an estimate and send it to them, blah blah blah, and i'd just rather go to one of their places because i have too many other things to worry about. the damage isnt too bad, its just near the passenger side headlight and the bumper

get a quote from the most expensive shop, get a check from your insurace company, go to a junkyard, pull the parts yourself, $profit$

^^thanks for your advice

^i'm not sure if that will work...i just called to kinda ask about it....i was like so if i dont pick one of your places, what is the procedure...she said if i dont pick one of those places i have to go to a statefarm center and they will do an estimate and then cut me a check for what they estimate and then i can go to the place i want...if the place i pick finds it to be more expensive than what the statefarm estimater said, then that place is to notify state farm of the additional charges

so it sounds like my options are:

a) go to a place thats on statefarms list and they take care of it
or
b) get statefarm to write an estimate and then go to somewhere that i choose, and if its more expensive, statefarm will add money to the money they already gave me

the only way i can see "$profit" in that is if state farm writes an estimate for like 1000 and gives me that money, and i find a place that could do it for 700....but even then, i would think statefarm would somehow know it was only 700 and ask me for the extra 300 back

My 05 infiniti g35 is at true2form in garner, nc as I type. I should get the car back today or tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. They are replaced, headlight, hood, bumper, grill, and realigning front fenders.

tru2form has done work on all 6 of my cars i have had.... and they did a great job. As for the insurance thing it worked about 2 years ago. Call up the places and take your car to get it estimated then take it to state farms estimation place.

so far i'm leaning toward option b....seems like if i get the estimate from state farm first and get that money, that afterwards i could price the estimates of various raleigh auto repair shops and pick the one thats cheaper than the state farm estimate

Insurance isn't going to ask for the $$ back.... hell, you can get the money & then not get it fixed for all they care

In my family's experience (we've been with State Farm for decades), State Farm estimators have always been decently generous.

I'd call and talk to a few shops about it... usually steer clear of the people who really don't give a shit & the annoying smooth talkers. Also, since you're having to replace one of your headlights, make sure they aim the new one properly. When mine were replaced after my wreck a few years ago the lazy SOBs didn't aim mine properly & it's a real pain in the ass on poorly lit roads/highways.

i've used haddocks in fuquay twice, both times they did good work and were pretty quick too, plus the owner (mr haddock) is an old drag racer.

Depending on the car and the mileage, adjusters will often assess damage and provide a quote specifying used parts for the repair.

Being that your car is a Honda, and isn't too old, there are a ton of aftermarket replacement parts (oem spec)...and you may want to specify that you wish for them to use as many of these parts as they will allow.

They wanted to replace my mom's bumper ('02 Avalon; less than 50k miles) with a used one, but I asked if they would replace with new aftermarket...and they did. I actually love dealing with adjusters.

Definitely get AT LEAST two quotes, and go with a reputable shop. A lot of folks have had good luck with True2Form, Haddock's, etc.

haha, tell the insurance you only want factory parts.

Then put on aftermarket. = more profit.

Stay away from Coats - they fucked my shit up. They did offer to fix it but I didn't take them up on it as it took 2 months to do what they did the first time.

first off, it is illegal for an insurance company to require you to use any specific or choose from a list of bodyshops. second, they must allow you to get at least 3 estimates from the body shop of your choice. however, you must get up to 3 estimates from body shops of their choice including their adjuster. in the long run, it is your decision who repairs your car and by law they must honor that.

on that note, if you want to make it easy on yourself, have foster's do the work. i have seen a lot of quality work come out of that shop and it's on your list. don't expect to have your car back in a few days though. like any quality shop expect for your car to be gone 2-3 weeks.

yeah the time it takes them to do it thing is pretty important...i was hoping i could take it in on a monday morning and get it back by thursday night...i work fri, sat, and sunday...school i can either walk to or ride the bus but i really dont want to ride the bus to work...i wouldnt think it would take that fucking long to fix the minor dents and scratches i have but who knows...

i do get a rental car but statefarm only covers 15 of it a day and the woman told me the cheapest car they got is 22 a day

idk i was told there is no time requirement on this so i'm just gonna do it like in a month maybe...idk

it doesn't. but just remember a shop that can "get right to it" doesn't have any customers for a reason.

I usually just spend the money and don't fix the car. I mean cars a pieces of shit no matter how you slice it.

I put like 40,000 miles on my car a year. I usually have to get a new one every couple years.. ....hand me a check for $1,600 to get some body work done and I am not seeing where that $1,600 adds value back to a car that already has high miles.

I have received about $3,000 in insurance proceeds from 3 incidents, there are cars similar to mine on craigslist for $3,500.

FOSTERS near the airport is the worst body shop in raleigh. I got royally fucked by their piss poor quality repairs, service, etc. I have since talked to several people that have had similar experiences. There is no excuse for:

-Threading sheet metal screws into locations designed for machine screws.
-Recreating electric lock linkage with coat hanger and JB weld
-Wiring the windshield wiper motor to the license plate lights
-Not reconnecting the window defroster
-Splicing a wiring harness, then to make it worse wiring the black wire to the blue wire etc
-Replacing OEM hinges in working condition with other used hinges in worse condition
-Missing the fact that the transmission mounts were broken in the wreck
-Missing the fact that the rear axle was no longer parallel to the front.

All of these things came to light after the 4 day repair took 4 weeks. We then had to take the car back to the shop once a month for close to a year, the car generally stayed at the shop for 2 weeks or more in between trips. Eventually I gave up, rewired the tailgate myself, installed new hinges, bought new lock linkage, and sold it before anything else fell off.

That sounds suspiciously low...only $15/day? My rental allowance last year from Nationwide was about $30/day. Enough to get a Maxima rental with something like $3/day out of pocket.

they will probably cut your labor by 1/3

so you will probably get 1150-1350 if you go to a claims adjuster... haddock estimates way too much for labor.

keith if u could do this i'd really appreciate this...if so i'd have to talk to you cause we'd kinda have to con my mom into giving me the money

she deposited the check but is like "well get the work done and i'll send some money to where you get it done, blah blah blah nag nag nag"

but like if somehow you acted like a business she might say ok...say it costs you like 700 to do this(triple d said its prolly like 500 bucks if i get the parts at a junk yard)...well you tell her 1000, and you make 300

how do you think we would go about getting the money?

my mom deposited the check...i told her like "give me the money and i'll fix it" and her response is "take it somewhere and when they give you the bill, tell me and i'll give them the money" and then i'm like "well i know some people that would probably do a better job and would be cheaper" and shes like "no i'm not paying "someone you know" to do this...i want it done right, blah blah blah"

i'm trying to tell her this is how the world works but shes freaking stubborn

Coats had to have my car back in the shop 3 times after collision repair/painting, and even then, they didn't take out the headlights to paint, just masked it poorly, making the paint bubble where the headlights meet the bumper... same thing happened around the license plate... didn't bother to take that off for painting either.

Kenny Hawkins had a great reputation and I saw a good amount of really nice cars, so I took it my car there after another bump up. They were average at best, though they did order a new headlight about a month after they worked on my car since the old one wouldn't adjust from the wreck.
