I'm trying to switch to a regular cell phone account as i've had this stupid go phone shit for the last two years. They wouldnt let me get a regular account as I have no credit card but I would think after two years of paying these bills on time to them they would let me get one, anyone know of a way/place I could do that? 11/15/2007 11:04:43 PM |

hahahahaha
i've been with them for 7 years now and they could care less whether i stay or go. it's market saturation - they have enough customers that one or two don't matter and there are still dozens lined up to take your place.11/15/2007 11:50:46 PM |

Haha i'm not expecting it to do jack shit to my credit score, but the way it works is its basically a regular cellphone bill, i get charged once a month. I would think it would show cingular that I'm capable of paying bills on time. 11/16/2007 1:19:40 PM |

One would think.
I had an account with Sprint for over two years 18-20, obviously at age 18 I had no credit so they gave me a spending limit account. Years later I started using my cell for a business line I needed the spending limit removed and they would not remove it.
Them: We can't take the spending limit off. Me: I have been a customer for over two years, you refunded my deposit over a year ago and its never been late! Them: The system wont let me. Me: Well pull my credit again, its established now. Them: I can't do that sir. Me: Why? Them: We have no way of re-evaluating an account. Me: Well thats stupid, so the only way to get this re-looked at is close the account and open a new one????!??@?@?@?@ :carl face: Them: Unfortunately sir, that is correct. Me: Well I am closing the account then. Them: (offers like a $25 service credit off bill)
I closed the account with sprint, ported the number to Nextel, payed no deposit, had no spending limit, and ended up with wayy better customer service.
Mind you this was fucking retarded as all hell because I was trying to change from a plan with over 2000 minutes that would have run 130+ a month. I had spent at least $2400 with them during the time I was a customer.
The best advice I can give you is when someone acts like they don't want your business, for god sakes take it elsewhere. When enough people do that then and only then do they start to give a shit. ]11/16/2007 1:44:24 PM |

Just pay the deposit and be done with it. You are getting raped on the prepaid service cost. The deposit seems like a lot now, but in the long run it is cheaper and helps your credit.
Also, tell them you work for the US Post Office and you will get 25% off monthly service and 50% off accessories. You get waived activation fees too =) 11/16/2007 1:47:17 PM |

They will probably credit the deposit back to your account in 10 or 11 months. That is how most of them work.
They subsidize the cost of the handsets so if you sign up and then don't pay right out the gate then you may have actually cost them money. Thats why they charge the deposit and then give it back later. 11/16/2007 2:00:37 PM |

1) Get a capital one card.
2) Pay your deposit with it.
3) Tie your monthly bill payment to your brand new credit card.
4) pay it off every month.
You'll have acceptable credit by the end of the year. 11/17/2007 4:09:37 AM |
