How much do you think is reasonable? I've lived in my apartment for 2 years...went to renew my lease and found out the rent is going to be $200 more a month! ....i think it's ridiculous but im kinda stuck and can't move at the moment...

i wouldnt have a problem paying it if i thought my shitty 1 bedroom was worth that much. but since i've looked at much nicer apartments for 750$ a month but decided on this one i definately think it a little much.

Our rent went up like crazy the last time we were set to renew. We even checked out other places and their prices were just as bad. We decided that we would be better off just buying a house and paying a mortgage payment instead of sucking it up and dealing with the insane rental prices.

My husband and I pretty much found out that once you start looking at more than $700/mo in rent that it's time to start looking at buying something.

before we left raleigh and were still renting an apartment, they tried to raise the rent by about 100 dollars a month. I politely told the real estate agent that we would move if they did but would prefer to stay there, and they agreed to renew for the same amount. An apartment doesn't have to sit empty long for them to lose the money that they would have gained by holding out for higher rent. it might not work, but I'd certainly try to negotiate.

Try to negotiate, it costs $$$ to move but considering that adds up to $2400 more in rent over a year you could come out ahead by finding a new place. Have you been up to date on rent while with this landlord? You can always use that as leverage, they could easily get someone in there that causes them to lose months of rent due to an eviction.

I think rents will be on the rise as people are forced out of their homes because of the mortgage stuff going on.

My one BR apt was almost $800 before I bought my house in 04... I never had a problem with it, but I guess it's different for everyone. I loved my place, it was very nice, and I had nothing to worry about maintainance wise.

You don't really seem like you're in a position to do anything else right now, so does it really matter what is reasonable? Can you renew for a shorter term? If you're stuck - you're stuck.

ask them what month to month is and do that if its more reasonable. I think ours was only like 50 bucks more a month.

I thought there was some kinda law or rule that they could only raise your rent 5% (maybe it was 10%) in a year? Maybe that was just someone running their mouth

were i rented in Texas, they sent me a nice letter saying my rent would be this for a year, but i just wanted to do 6 months....so i told them that and they were like that will be more and I said no I would only pay what is in this letter(10 bucks more a month) and they said fine. I probably could of kept it what it was but didnt think about that at that time.
