I got a job offer in the south west side of charlotte. Does anybody have any good locations or heard of any good apartments up there?

Honestly, live uptown or in southend. You'll be driving against traffic, and your quality of life will be much better.

I will definitely say that living opposite the flow of traffic is an excellent idea.

When I was up there for the UFI internship, the traffic was thick, but at least it wasn't completely stopped. I was able to have a fairly consistent commute every morning, spending only about 7 minutes on the highway to go about 5 miles.

My only advice is that you don't stay somewhere with such a high rent (so far into uptown or far too urban, for example) that you can't maintain a decent enough savings rate to get yourself a house in the area.

Again though, if you're going with the I-77 flow in the morning and at night into charlotte, you're probably going to hate your life. That commute is slow as hell.

live near uptown or ballantyne. ballantyne is really nice, but it's far away from everything... but all of charlotte is like that. just don't live right off of independence, that's all i have to say

I live in Ballantyne. My employer just moved to Ballantyne Corporate Park. I freaking love the area. Its got just about everything I could possibly need or want within a 3 mile radius. The only thing I really wish it had was a cool Irish Pub or a small hole in the wall type bar to grab a beer.

don't live near the lake norman area if your job is near the south west side of charlotte. You will be driving about an hour each way.

Irish Pub - O'Shea's on Ardrey Kell. One of my best friends from high school is the bartender there.

Renaissance Park is off Tyvola. You can pretty much live anywhere between there and Uptown and be going against the flow of traffic, no worries about getting held up. If you stay East of I-77 and North of I-485, you shouldn't have to use either and not worry about the traffic on the interstates.

I've been doing my research and looking up on prices/amenities/location of an apartment for the next year or so while I get settled into my new job in late August. I'm honestly pretty startled at the amount of crime in the north eastern area (per their statistics on their police map), even the nicer places. Looks like a few auto thefts/burglaries/robberies in each complex is par for the course each month Being in the university area or independence area doesnt help and the northwest side is looking pretty sparse so I was looking into places on the southern end of huntersville and dong the commute of going straight down 77 as both the apartment and job are right off the interstate.

The job is located just a mile or so north of uptown so I was curious as to how bad the traffic going into the city is. I always hear its pretty bad going into charlotte in the mornings, but what is it exactly? Congested but quick? Slow? Daily accidents on this stretch? I'm already used to a 25 minute commute, if it gets me out of the shadowy areas.

Surprising to see this bumped...

Anyway, I'm currently living in Stone Ridge. It's off of tryon just south of 485. I feel pretty safe, but it really took a while to get used to it. I would live somewhere else if I did it again. The apartment employees are fine, but for some reason the wrong crowd will hang late at night and it's a little unsettling sometimes. It just took a while. The only problem with living closer to uptown is the rent. From my searching it seems as if rent is way higher here than it was in raleigh.

Dilworth, Plaza-Midwood, Myers Park, Elizabeth. I have friends in all these that have found houses to rent for 300-400$/person. Just have to know where to look. My parents live in Plaza-Midwood and i love being in the middle of everything, it takes you the same amount of time to get anywhere in Charlotte.

i used to live near the plaza midwood area and i loved it... i just hated the house i was in. we were ~ 10 mins from uptown, and i loved the commonwealth, plaza midwood, and noda areas. if i buy a house in charlotte it will be on or around commonwealth. there is a lot of renovating going on in those areas and it's getting a lot nicer.

i live in ballantyne now, which i love. i feel safe, i've never had any trouble with anyone or anything, the people that work at my apartment complex are all really friendly and helpful. the only problem i have is one of the maintenance guys was trying to look up my skirt when i went up the stairs to my apartment... that made me angry haha.. but that's the worst i've delt with. oh and at my apartment the maintenance has always been done the day i requested it. so that's nice. only downside to this part of town is that it's a little expensive.

dilworth and south-end are really nice imo. i've never lived there, but i have a friend that just moved to south end and she loves it. i have another friend that just bought a condo in elizabeth, and he loves it.

^ always.... my mom works for a custom home company and was trying to sell a young couple a place when i stopped in and they were debating between uptown and her neighborhood and i had to bite my tongue...

the only thing that sucks is my parents live in concord so if i want to go eat dinner with them i have to do the rush hour thing.

there aren't too many accidents, just a fuckton of people going south

my dad works downtown and drives from Huntersville every morning, but I wouldn't really recommend that to anyone: it takes him at least an hour

5-8 minutes to get from Plaza-Midwood to south-end for my commute. I just don't understand why people live so far away from work. It wastes gas and time. I don't want to ever commute more than 10 minutes.

Southend rocks...lived there for the last 3 years and its great...I work in the South part of Charlotte so commute is awesome since I'm going against the flow.

umm they're not all in one but yes in the same area

the marshalls isn't open yet though i don't think

as are trader joes and an office place (depot/max i dunno)
