Aight so here's the deal:

After shooting a great deal of guns at Davi's and PHDSC, I've narrowed it down to two options

1) Glock 22 .40cal
2) Taurus 24/7 (Maybe the Pro?) .40cal

I've heard some good and bad associated with both brands but I like the grip on the Taurus and the trigger pull of the Glock

Tell me what to do

I had the a Taurus 9mm... fucking cop confiscated it in a search of my car and I haven't been able to get it back even though it was legit.

Biggest waste of a few hundred bucks ever

i just bought a glock 26 and im really happy. just go for the glock. easy to strip, durable as hell, accurate as you can shoot it, and it will always shoot.

^^^^^If you don't like the grip on the Glock or the trigger on the Taurus, then what don't you like about the XD?
It's got a traditional grip angle and a Glock-like trigger.
Adder's XD in the classifieds would be a very good deal if it's in good condition.

I wouldn't worry about any bad comments about Glocks. They sell such a high volume that a few bad ones here and there aren't a big deal. The blown up Glocks are almost all due to excessive leading from cast bullets or overpressure reloads in the 40S&W.

Have you rented a S&W M&P?

^^I've heard you gotta always ask for documentation when they take your guns.
If you have proof that they took it and there is no reason for them to keep it then you should get it back.
I've heard, from people who are close to LEOs, that LEOs take confiscated guns home all the time. They get away with it because the criminals they take it from have shitty enough records that they can't do the paperwork to get them back.

I'll throw my $.02 in for the S&W M&P as well... try it out if you can't meet the price point on the sig and want something different from the Glock, XP, or Taurus... they have a D&E P229 at Lawman's last time I was there a couple days ago for $599 if that's a bit closer to your range.... just FYI

that was a little strongly worded, I just think that their prices are a bit too high (i say this after looking at the P250 that includes 1 magazine and no accessories - that sucks). if they want to convince me to buy the conversion kit over purchasing an another gun in .22LR, the price better be worth it (greater than $50 difference).

i do realize that there are people who aren't as cheap as I am and would gladly buy it without considering cost. i am not one of those people.

All I have to say about the M&P is YES. Taurus are hit and miss on quality. Glock is better in that respect, but I think the ergonomics of the S&W M&P are much better. Also, at one point they had a deal where you could send in a form for 2 extra magazines for each M&P you purchased. The offer might have expired, but since it already comes with two, 4 mags is a great deal.

I could never make myself like the XD (I owned one for a while) no matter how much I tried. There wasn't anything wrong with it, I just didn't care for it.

I think S&W recently had an offere where if you buy an M&P then you could get a 22A for something like $50.

Hell of a deal. Get the 22A and sell it for $200 and pocket the $150.

It's a pain to get a handgun permit. Not the paperwork, the fact that you have to actually show up to the Sheriff's office with another person that will vouch for your character. Besides working an hour away from where I'm living, getting someone to go there with me before they close is getting nearly impossible.

I've recently inherited an custom made Ithaca 20 gauge that has a quite a few marks on it that I would like to have looked at. I also have a few other guns that I would like to have some work done on. After searching, I kept finding ogburn gun repair and was wondering what your experience with them was, or if anyone had any other gunsmiths in the area to reccomend.

I don't have any experience with Ogburn, but check this site out for some other smiths:

I have had Ogburn do a lot of work for me. Hes good but he has a big backlog all the time, so you wont get it back next week. I really like what he does, and he will handle the newest stuff to the oldest stuff.

not durham, BUT durham makes you find two witnesses go with you to a notary and fill out paperwork.

it's incredibly stupid. just goes to show you that they want criminals to have all the power/shows the incompetence of the legal system there.

oddly enough, there is no such character statement on the ccw application. take the class, take the money and the paperwork, and get on with it. when you get it, you never need pistol permits again nor do they do the NICS check, which blows on saturday at the gunshow.

the one that fits your hand, you budget and that you feel the most comfortable shooting.

that's like asking which is better, chevy, ford or dodge... a lot of it is how the gun feels in your hand, and how comfortable you are when shooting. The best gun in the world according to magazines and websites might not fit your hand, and therefore it is not the best gun for you. Many companies make great 9mm's you can look at Glock, Sig, Ruger, S&W, H&K, XD. Head to a gun store and hold them, feel them, go through all the motions with them. Then head to the range and rent a few that you liked the best and narrow it down from there.

Pitt Co.

I was thinking about CCW permit, but I guess I'd just have to borrow a gun for that. A CCW would do me no good at all except for being able to buy handguns whenever I wanted and concealing the gun in my vehicle. Otherwise, because of school and work, I can't have it with me anytime anyway.

yep, rent one at the range.

^^ that's true, you really wouldn't have it with you all the time. you'll be glad you had it when/if you needed it.

I shoot a lot, I probably have fired over 1000 rounds through my dad's Ruger Mark II. I'm sure he'd let me borrow his P95 for CCW class.

If I can use a Mark II for the class, that would almost be cheating. It's a great shooting pistol, easy to use safety for right-hand holding (target grips for RH only), easy mag release, reload, bolt stop, etc.

Not to mention that it's darn accurate too. The only thing I don't like is the grip angle, it's just the nature of the thing.

I would use the mkII. you almost dont need a gun, you can throw the bullets through the target at the distances required.

got my HK P30 9mm about 2 weeks ago and have shot about 400 rounds through it. This gun is awesome. The most comfortable grip I have felt without question, and quite accurate for its size.

my only gripe about some HK's is the heavy trigger pull (the p2000 .40 comes to mind)

its no big deal but if you're trying to target shoot 100 rounds, about halfway through your finger is sore

other than that Heckler and Koch is pretty much the best firearm manufacturer in the world imo

just picked up the S&W 642 for the wife. I like the way it feels in the hand and carries, the weight I think is good for a carry piece and it still packs quite a punch. can't wait to run some rounds through it this weekend.

Does anyone have any opinions on euro mag releases?

I've been looking at a few pistols, namely the HK P7 and the Sig P232 and both sport them.

If I could afford the ambi mag release on the P7, I'd probably go with that.

i dont really care for it but that is because i am not used to it. my cousin has a few guns with it and he shoots in competitions and he can switch out mags just as fast if not faster withe the euro mag release than the typical kind. it is all in what you get used to.

I'm trying to increase my collection, but I have no idea if getting a pistol with a euro mag release is a good thing. My other gun is a Sig with the browning type mag release, so it's what I know better.

Big Sky Guns & Pawn - Apex

Has anyone been to this place and could give their impressions? I'd like to be able to send purchases there, but I haven't heard anything about the place.

My next choice is Jim's Guns, but it's a bit out of the way for me.

What are y'alls experiences with gunbroker.com?
Other than having to ship the gun to a licensed dealer, anything worth mentioning? Positive or negative?
You feel like the prices were fair/a better deal?

Any places in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/Greensboro worth checking out (other than the gun show)
Davi's is a bit pricey and PDHSC has small selection. Eagle 1 has a small selection and prices dont seem as high as Davi's

We have bought tons of shit off gunbroker and auctionarms.com I like auctionarms because of a madatory 3 day inspection period. Its like buying anything else online, look for good pics, good feedback, return policy, the usual stuff. My guy charges $30 for a transfer, other places will do it cheaper(?) but tell them what to expect, and get them to look at it if you cant get there in time . the 3 days starts when UPS delivers it.

Perry's Gun Shop Inc - http://www.perrysgunshop.com
21 E 3rd St, Wendell - (919) 365-4200

I was referred to perry's by a friend and was not disappointed. They had a ton of guns on display (you walk behind the counter to examine - no permission needed), and their employees are super friendly and knowledgeable. Their ammo prices might not be the lowest, but everything else is cheaper than Davi's.

thing about eagle1 is that they charge more than PDSHC. which is strange, b/c they are located in a shitty area and i know their rent is low. also PDHSC's range is better ventilated.

i priced out some accessories and a couple of pistols at both places and PDHSC was lower every time.

i just go to davi's to touch and PDHSC to buy. jim's gun's might be my new place though, considering that his FFL fee is $20 AND his prices are better. i wish it were easier to buy a gun cheaper with shipping and ffl fee.

i just don't like how auctionarms.com website is designed. it leaves a lot to be desired.

I know a lot of my co-workers go to Perry's for their hunting stuff. I've been warned off of Davi's. Seems to me that the best prices are at Lawmen's, at least that I can tell. Also been hearing that WSO will be turning in a load of P229's soon, so there might be some good deals to be had up there. I do agree about PDHSC's range over Eagle1 though.

Has anybody been down to the county's range? they have some weird hours for the public, but their CCW is waaaay cheaper than PDHSC.
