so my boss thought he would be slick and change the router login
of course he forgot it a week later
so now i can't make necessary changes
i'd reset the thing with pleasure, but there are so many customized settings on the thing it'd take at least a day to figure it all out again.......and we can't have downtime.

there is a way to get into a router even if you forget the password and be able to save the config file and again set the new password 11/25/2007 10:54:57 AM |

Quote : | "Here are the main steps to password recovery for a cisco router: 1. Boot the router and interrupt the boot sequence by performing a break. 2. Change the configuration register to turn on bit 6 (with the value 0x2142). 3. Reload the router. 4. Enter privileged mode. 5. Copy the startup-config file to running-config. 6. Change the password. 7. Reset the configuration register to the default value. 8. Save the router configuration. 9. Reload the router." |

if it's not a cisco router
chances are the configuration isn't that complicated
plus if your network is set up correctly it should grab routing tables from your other routers via RIP 11/26/2007 9:22:06 PM |
