If you want to get her a ring, get one with colored stones or pearls if you want to avoid looking too 'wedding-y'.

you can make anything a wedding band/ring! It does not even have to be a diamond, IMO. My cousin has a wedding ring like that, well it is her engagement ring, her wedding ring is a plain band.

That is what is known as a dinner ring or a right hand ring. Definitely not an engagement ring, unless you are some serious white trash or new money. 11/26/2007 10:44:59 AM |

I've had damn good luck with black mountain, and a few places in charlotte. Not sure exactly where to send you in raleigh. I would imagine there has to be some shit in chapel hill/carboro
you could always incorporate going into the store to 'look around' and feel her opinions out. you have got to find a resturant or some other reason to walk by the store.

what makes that white trash? the price being so cheap? I am not into jewelery defining who I am but jeez. I know purity in a diamond will determine longevity but I do believe if you get this person a cz and call it a diamond they would not know the difference. With that said, please don't buy a cz and call it a diamond.
I hope this person you are getting this for is just grateful to get something and is not expecting you to buy this stuff all the time. That would suck for you.

I call it white trash because it would make a very tacky wedding band or engagement ring, especially since it is a dinner ring or a 'right hand' ring.
"A dinner ring or cocktail ring is a large oversized ring, set with precious or semiprecious stones. Cocktail rings became popular during the 1940s and 1950s. They are generally worn by women and placed on the fourth finger of the right hand. For this reason they are sometimes known as Right Hand Rings."
Side note: I think it's pretty silly to spend however many months salary on an engagement ring because the money could be better spent on something else like part of a down payment on a house. My husband asked my grandmother for a ring that was given to her by her husband their first Christmas together and he had the diamonds reset into an engagement ring for me. It cost less than $200, but to me it was priceless. 11/26/2007 1:47:30 PM |

I like the rock on my girls fanger, cost quite a bit but its for the rest of her life or at least a large part of it so you gotta ball out. 11/26/2007 1:52:21 PM |

i think that's wayyy too cheap to be either an engagement or a wedding ring.
and as stated earlier, wedding bands usually are plain-ish....my parents have matching ones that are just gold with some teeny tiny stones on 'em. 11/26/2007 1:54:49 PM |

well i figured its real cheap. because of what it has in it.
but i didnt know the looks.
nowadays anything is a wedding ring. or not.
but i wasnt so sure on what kind of ring it was. a bit wedding-ish or not. 11/26/2007 1:55:57 PM |

When I first heard that rule I was like, "what kind of consumerist bullshit is that?" If the girl likes a ring, and you can afford it, buy it. If she feels like you've got to spend X months of your salary on a ring for her, she can work the streets for that money after she climbs up over the curb you kicked her to.11/26/2007 2:53:07 PM |

this is a concept I believe in!! It kind of makes me sad when a woman expects a few months salary on a ring and who knows if the marriage will even last. I think if someone is wanting a baller ring later on in the marriage when about 15-20 years have been put in then I am not mad at that. I personally don't want a $15,000 ring, I would rather have a Toyota Matrix.11/26/2007 4:30:34 PM |
