do not goto lake park. or anywhere around it.

dont listen to anyone who says its a good place.

because its really not.

unless all you do is sleep there and you have no valuables and you live on 2nd floor and have the front door chain locked with a pitbull and a shotgun handy.

then it may be a good place.

haha whatever you do dont live at u oaks...unless you really like living in the ghetto....every single person i know that has lived there has hated it...plus its preiss company

[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 5:15 PM. Reason : if you had to live anywhere pic ivy commons, kensington park, or u glenn...in that order]

places to absolutely avoid: lake park, college inn, u oaks, u house unless you like paying a hell of a lot of money, u woods(barely a step up from lake park...more white people and less bums but basically lake park jr)

well i lived there few years ago. and i keep seeing thread pop up about lake park.

but its cheap, and cheap people=college kids=noise noise noise and ghetto acts everywhere.

shady as hell people. break ins.

there are parties every week.

i know this is probably the stuff of just about all apartment complexes, but the others at least charge more than $200 a month. people just dont care. its really ghetto there.

i mean, we did contribute to the noise. but still

we poured motor oil in front of our place and would do burnouts such. heck, a taxi driver even let me neutral drop his taxi one night

i've lived in U Village in the past. it's pretty nice. i mean they were always doing stuff to try and bring people to the clubhouse, like giving out free food and having pool parties. there's a nice game/tv room with a kitchen, and a really nice gym, and a pool. whenever we had issues with our appliances or plumbing they fixed them really fast. i lived in a building that had a lot of close parking, so i never had to go really far away. it doesn't take that long to get to campus, plus they widened trailwood. or you could ride the bus to campus which doesn't take too long. it's also close to the farmer's market, crossroads, and a food lion. i never had a problem with the internet, either. so yeah, it's pretty cool.

i lived at u village and it wasn't that bad. we were the loudest people in our building.

i wouldn't call the gym nice

they did cut holes in our ceiling to adjust some pipes or something and never fixed it

that was my only complaint

i think it has to do alot one the type of tenant you are, because for the most part i'm getting two thumps way up, or having the place shat on verbally.

i'm not one to trash the place or make alot of noise so i hope that translates to good service from the company.

"what's wrong with internet? slow?"

bandwidth limit: 500 mb/24 hour period... moving 24 hour frame... if you exceed 500 mb during that frame, you're put on a lower priority until it isn't over anymore.

it's slow if you're used to roadrunner or campus internet (i probably miss that most from dorms). if you over the bw limit during high traffic times, forget loading a web page. also, you have to do a registration for a single device, so if you don't have a router in your room you're stuck with one device in your room.

no prob. i should mention it is "okay" most of the time... just really really blows when you go over. also, they just went wireless (the whole complex)... but i think they ran the wireless split off of the already in place land lines... sooooo that's a +/- depending on how you look at it

i lived at UVillage and yeah it was cheap, but i had a prettty big bug problem. ants, roaches, you name it. once found a monster roach in my dishwasher crawlin over all my clean dishes. the people never came out and sprayed either. i had to do it myself. i did live on the first floor though, which probably had to do with it. i lived on the 3rd floor at UHouse and never saw a bug

just my experience

Avoid UVillage. I know people who live there now...their apartment got broken into, and one of them got pistol whipped there. two separate occasions. very very ghetto place.

WELL, based off nothing but what people have said in this thread. it seems to me that Uvillage(physical stuff) is not ghetto, but located in a ghetto environment.

can anyone pose an argument to disagree with that?

I lived in U Oaks for 2 years and I loved it. It wasn't as crazy as U Woods or whatever, and it was a lot cheaper. Yes it was kinda in the ghetto, and a couple nice cars got broken into (especially if you parked out on the street) but if you have a shitty car like me its not a problem.

People always talk bad about the Preiss company, but I never had any problems. Supposedly if you want to like mess with your lease or something complicated then they can suck, but since I never had to do that...

U Oaks was on the Varsity line (yes its like a 1 minute walk through Rhyne's gate), and i never felt unsafe or anything walking home. Also, being right on Western/Gorman is pretty nice.

o yea and the internet was never slow

i lived at u oaks for 2 years, and every month or so you would see a car with the windshield bashed in, or something keyed up, but i never had any problems. the rent was cheap, and i had good roommates, so i enjoyed my time there.

we had this apt full of older people next door, and i helped this old broad move a mattress into her room once. she then tried to convert me to this religion she was starting up and asking if i wanted some of her books to study it up with... well, after that she tried to use my services every chance she needed me. she left notes on our door saying i was her 'angel with the white truck'. she was a fucking weird bitch. towards the end of the year she got arrested for possesion of pot, and had sent a letter to us saying that we were poisoning her food, and we planted the weed on her. since mine was the only name she knew, she included me in that.

it was a cool place overall though. your friends will get towed, but the rent is cheap. i paid 225/month

^^ they have stopped towing I think

My roomates havent had permits since June and havent been towed yet. My friend never get towed, hell the only tow truck I see is the one that came when a girls car broke down.

and I havent seen a car broken into in monthsssssssss

I had a radio stolen but I was asking for it, I accidently left my top down. which was STUPIDDD i know.

when I lived in Drifthood it was MUCH MUCH MUCH worse, the people above us got into so many fights the whole place knew about it...the wife called the dude out one day in the parking lot with pics of him cheating on her and then she threw a brick into his car window and slashed his tires on his new rims then when he got it fixed came back about a week later and did it again and left the pics on his car

live in u oaks as well. its okay. good location, close to campus. not to loud, though there are the occasional parties. cops are always around trying to find one of the locals.

you do have to deal with the locals in the lot. had one asking for my stuff as i was moving into an apartment.

^^^yeah the woman was crazy. roommate helped her move furniture once as well. was an ungrateful bitch. i believe ldkenned has an interesting story about her as well.

my gf and my sister both live at uvillage currently.

their apartment is ok now, but on move in day it was a shithole. the carpet was horrible, you could tell it hadn't been cleaned (which was the only reason uvillage gave for my gf not being able to move in early, a request that she put in 2 months before move in ) the fridge was broken, dishwasher was broken, both bathroom lavatories weren't supported and were flimsy, as in you lean on it and it moves up or down 2 inches either way.

basically a lot of things were wrong. had to bitch the management out for about a week until they fixed everything. now they have new carpet, new dishwasher, fridge fixed, lavatories fixed, etc.

so it all turned out ok, they like it, I wouldn't say that it's ghetto at all. not the best place ever, but far from ghetto. the management ended up fixing all of the problems, but the problems shouldn't have been problems in the first place for the relatively high rent that they are paying.

would i recommend living there? sure, but make sure you document all of the problems, if any, when you move in and make sure that the management knows about them and takes an active role in fixing them.

i lived in U Oaks last year. it was never terrible, but i'm glad i'm out of there. typical cookie cutter apartment complex. it was never that loud, but there were always people asking you for money. I had one dude try to sell me some size 52 pants at 4 in the morning, and then I got offered this really fat prostitute when i was riding my bike back from class. Some girls BMW got broken into when i was there but i never had any problems. Preiss company sucks hard at fixing shit that breaks in your place though. My toilet broke one day and it took about two weeks for the dude to get out to it because they said that I kept calling and canceling the work order when i didn't. I had to jimmy-rig a penny in some valve to make it flush right.
