I tend to go through phases of topical curiosity and feed this desire by reading various blogs. There are a lot of shitty blogs out there that are nothing more than masturbatory soapboxes, but there are a ton of really intelligent, informative blogs that are well written and concise, and I'm always interested in finding new "smart" blogs to read.

Here are some of my favorites:

Freakonomics
It's basically an extension of the book, always replete with interesting analysis on just about everything.

On Winning
This blog applies John Boyd's strategies (he is THE military strategist of our time) to business and the internet. If you don't know who John Boyd is, then you need to start here.

Confessions of a College Callgirl
This girl is allegedly a college student by day, and hooker by night. The author IS, however, a talented and witty writer and the subject matter is very captivating.

Power, Seduction and War
A blog by Robert Greene, the author of The 48 Laws of Power and The Power of Seduction.

What are you reading?

too many to list. I wish Google Reader had a shared/public page that just listed all your subscriptions. All you can do is export an OPML file.....

but definitely have to plug Fake Steve - http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/
"The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs
Dude, I invented the friggin iPhone. Have you heard of it?"

"I love beautiful objects. I love creating them. Negative people upset me."

I read college callgirl too. Another good "sex worker" blog is hobostripper.com She lives out of her van and drives around the country as a traveling stripper. I think she has her masters degree. Really interesting stuff though. There is a ring of stripper bloggers that all sorta hang out together that you can get off her site. (rivercitykitty is one)

hoboteacher.com (but not really about a hobo) is the tales of a high school english teacher. Very entertaining, and he is good about updating.

fourfour.typepad.com is run by the guy who blogs for VH1. Mostly about pop culture, America's Next top model hilarious recaps, and his awesome smushed face cat Winston.

http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/ Fugly clothes of famous people.

Tucker doesn't really count because he hasn't updated with new stories in years. However, I do read a few of the other linked Rudius Media boards:
Shrinktalk is a really funny and informative blog by a psychologist. Helps to see some of the crazy shit I may or may not have to deal with later.
Gaijin Smash...enh...read the archives, but since he left the JET program, his material isn't as funny. He's still an amazing writer, but he's got very little to work with.
Daddy Don't Hit Me is an awesome premise, but they need more writers BADLY.

Pretty Dumb Things goes along well with College Callgirl. She just broke up with her fiancé though, so right now it's less about sex and more about feelings.

I read my friend Amy's blog she's a good story teller and updates it daily

and would http://www.thesuperficial.com be considered a blog? I know it's short, and not all encompassing of entertainment gossip, but he's entertaining nonetheless. I read it almost daily.

note: none of these even come close to intelligent, well, maybe Heaven and Here, but the rest are either about sports or rap for me. blogs are like my special place at work where i go when im stressed out.

Everything is Wrong With Me
http://www.jasonmulgrew.com/main/

funny writer, hanging on to 5 minutes of fame from like 5 years ago and just chronicling his experiences with living in NY and self loathing and inability to meet chicks...total guys guy

Free Darko
http://freedarko.blogspot.com/

NBA NBA NBA (and every once in a while sports in general)

Straight Bangin'
http://www.straightbangin.blogspot.com/

Rap, politics, sports

Hip-hop is Read
http://hiphopisread.blogspot.com/

excellent blog on hiphop, not so much the daily news feed...really relies more on exploring social issues affecting the hiphop community as well as exploring the rich history and background/evolution

Heaven & Here
http://heavenandhere.wordpress.com/

excellent episodic breakdown of The Wire, lauded by the shows creator himself for its insight into the characters and overall social commentary breakdown of the show

Nah Right
http://www.nahright.com/news/

straight up hip hop/rap audio/video content and some news on occasion

The Rap-Up
http://therapup.rawkus.com/

more news than AV content, kind of the reverse of NahRight

DC Sports Bog
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/

All things DC/MD/VA sports based

The Megatron Don
http://www.themegatrondon2.com/

Just Blaze's (Roc-A-Fella superproducer) personal blog

"most of you use google reader?

1) i use google reader (started out on bloglines/newsgator, until Google Reader 2 came out). it has completely changed the way I use the internet. I hardly ever use my bookmarks any more. i.e. I rarely if every actually go directly to a page, like arstechnica.com or anandtech.com any more to see if they have something new. Even though I rarely/never go to the front page of most sites, I often do actually open up individual posts from GReader (instead of reading the post inside GReader), usually accumulating dozens of tabs in the background to read later, as I move my GReader unread count to 0.

2) maybe there is not "official" definition of a blog, but personally, I would not consider any site a blog if it did not have an RSS feed. Anything hosted on or by wordpress, typepad and blogger/blogspot, though, will have a feed. If I run across a new site that I want to keep up with and it doesn't have an RSS feed, i just ignore it.

Dooce - snarky

Others
The Simple Dollar - personal finance. Very insightful. Realized while holding his newborn son that he literally had no idea how to put food on the table, due to debt and living beyond his and his wife's means, and has totally turned their financial situation around.

Anonymous Coworker - Hit or miss, and widely so. I'm either slightly bored, or really laughing out loud.

Buon Appetito! - waiter blog
Barmaid Blog - not as good as it used to be, but not bad enough to come off my reader
Mirage - waitress' blog. Her grammar almost makes me take her off. Almost
Insane Waiter - another waiter blog
Waiter Rant - waiter blog
Madeline in the Mirror - sex blog; she's kinda famous in the sex blogger community; NYC
Mistress Matisse - dominatrix in Seattle. kinda snooty, but she offers good advice and resources; pictures
Dominatrix Next Door - dominatrix, as indicated, but she also does porn with kink.com. Absolutely fucking adorable, and posts pics. like today
Jezebel - catty, somewhat feminist blog. I like their fashion and snap judgment posts
Secret Dubai Diary
Something to Travel About - EXCELLENT photoblog
Daily WTF
Consumerist - invaluable resource for getting your way, and also good reading. This one and simple dollar are where I started gathering resources for developing the curriculum for a financial literacy course I'm creating
Cranky Epistles - another professor
Behind the Counter - the stories were good; her attempts at humor sometimes fell short. But like I said - the stories were GOOD. Recently (like, last week) offline, so archives.
Wide Lawns - This one cracks me up EVERY time. Reading any old stories linked to in a post is a MUST.
Indexed
Loltheist - hit/miss; mostly hit
lolsecretz - PostSecret + lolcats
A Day in the Life of an Ambulance Driver - humorous, mostly.
Misc sex and porn blogs.

Most often I check these two
http://bluenc.com/
http://www.orangepolitics.org/

Quote :
"BlueNC is a progressive community website focused on North Carolina politics. Its front page blog is its central feature, and includes posts written by BlueNC regulars and posts promoted to the front page through group moderation. The site also features an events calendar, a forum, and an action center, where users can send off letters to the editor and contact their State and federal representatives.

[edit] Notable Guest Appearances

* Blog entries by North Carolina Congressman Brad Miller (NC-13).
* BlueNC interview with North Carolina Congressman David Price (NC-04).
* Blog entries by Congressional Candidate Larry Kissell (NC-08).
* BlueNC interview with Larry Kissell.
"

-wiki
BlueNC has left-leaning town councilman & other community figures participate alot too that aren't on that list. OrangePolitics is focused on orange county NC which is where I live atm.

http://www.pamshouseblend.com/
http://www.dailykos.com/
Pams House Blend is centered in Durham I believe, but she goes on national (like CNN) & local media alot advocating progressive positions & for the lgbt community. Dailykos I read less often, but I occasionally see links to it from those other sites or here on tww which has prompted me to start taking a look more often.
