Heres the catch.. guys says that it needs a head gasket- Obviously still an incredible deal with 102,000miles- It;s loaded to the max, not a scammer as I have already covered that ground...
All I can figure is that it's probably not just the gasket- chances are that is an easy way to get it sold and is going to wind up needing a new motor all togther- the 5.7 seem to be pretty F'n expensive-
Would it be feesable (insert n00b question) if necessary to replace with the 5.3 or 4.7 ??? 11/28/2007 5:11:59 PM |

LS series truck engines are cheap at salvage yards.. probably worth it if you can or know someone to do the swap 11/28/2007 5:24:38 PM |

What body style is it?
The old one's use 5.7, the newer are 5.3's. I don't think Yukon were ever sold with the 4.7 but it could be.
I had a 01 Z71 with a 5.3, and I cracked a cylinder head towing a boat on the interstate. I wouldn't get another GM truck for several other reasons: I had trouble with the elec diff, the leather ripped and the armrest decayed, the power seats quit working, the doors and mirrors whistled at interstate speeds and every frat d-bag has got one. But that's my opinion.
Also gas isn't getting any cheaper. 11/28/2007 5:34:42 PM |

I beleive 5.7's are in the 2000 yukons. They aren't expensive at all, and can be rebuilt fairly cheaply as well.
electric diff in a silverado? can't say i've ever heard of that one. they are either open or have a gov-lock. 11/28/2007 6:09:04 PM |

you should be able to source a longblock for less than $2500, or rebuild the current one for less than $1000, depends on how much work you want to put into it
thats gonna be a 5.3 or 4.8 in 2000, 5.7 was '99, unless it is a 2500, then the sky is the limit that year, about 6 or 7 engines available
I have an '02 5.3 that has 210k miles of abuse and 30k oil change that is still doing fine, its a solid motor, as long as you dont let the coolant get low, thats the death of them 11/28/2007 6:49:41 PM |

^^ nope 5.3/4.8 only in 2000 in 1/2 ton pickups and chevy suvs, 5.7 was continued in the 2500's that year, with an optional 5.3, 4.8, 6.5,
6.0 wasnt availible in the gmc's until 2001, and only in the 2500, it came in the 2500 2000 model tahoe and pickups, but not suvs until the avalance came out in 02, gm is a year behind on 3/4 ton and up and suvs in drivtrains
i was incorrect earlier as corrected by my buddy at bobby murray, the 2000 model yukon denali was only available with the 5.7 vortec, and the 6.5 diesel, so a 1996-2000 5.7 longblock will work in it, they were a 1999 order that were not built until 2000, so it is basically a rebaged, new 1999 model yukon, shit gets complicated in those years

Sounds like you should jump on that...If you can get a new motor for $2500 like 69 said, or even if it ends up being more than that. KBB on a 2000 Denali with that mileage, not considering any options beyond the standard, was around $11k. Even if you don't want to keep it you could turn it around for a nice profit. 11/28/2007 11:09:20 PM |

I am definately planning on buying and flipping it- It does in fact have the 5.7L in it- ONly engine make the Yukon Denali (non xl) offered in 2000-
thats the thing- I have found used 5.3L for $600-$800 where the cheepest 5.7L I have found is around $2100... Thats where I was wondering about the swap- Again- this is all constituant upon it needing one- 11/29/2007 9:50:26 AM |

^ stick with the 5.7, a gen 3 smallblock to a lt swap is nothing you want to tackle, as cheap as that is, go with a reman longblock, you'll still come out ahead
a roller cam 5.7 remanufactured longblock should run no more than $2,200-2,500, and plan on about $400-500 in water pump, plugs, wires, oil, coolant, hoses, etc, etc 11/29/2007 10:45:50 AM |

hell it may be just a head gasket, or better yet the intake gasket which is also prone to failure. 11/29/2007 11:31:11 AM |

my '00 yukon (not denali) had the 5.3 vortec. mine had about 110k on it and was running great still. vortec engines are pretty good, so if you can get it fixed right you would undoubtedly get 3000 (plus fixing) bucks out of it. 11/29/2007 4:20:06 PM |

^^ nope, late 01 denali was a 2500 platform, 2500 yukons were not selling fast enough, so some were used as denalis, but denali xl was a 1500 only, go figure, i have done a shitload of junkyard interchange research on those year model gms 11/29/2007 6:34:22 PM |

nope- The 2000 Yukon's changed over to the new body as did the Tahoes... The denali's also changed but they changed with the escalade design and only for half a year-
Maybe I'm missing something critical- But the 2000 Yukon Denali (excluding the XL) only came in a 5.7L- thats it...11/30/2007 10:03:19 AM |

Like I said, you will not find any newer body style Chevy, GMC or Cadillac with a 5.7. By new body style I meant one of these (which are both 2000's btw):
