I'm selling a vehicle to a person that wants to use a credit card check. Can you call up the credit card company to verify sufficient funds on these checks? How safe are they? Anyone have any experience with this? 12/2/2007 1:23:37 PM |

Just make sure you have two copies of a bill of sale and that both parties sign each copy. 12/2/2007 1:27:57 PM |

I'd much rather do this at a bank, but it's damn near impossible for me to meet people during the week since I travel so much. 12/2/2007 1:37:11 PM |

aren't money orders limited to something like $1,000?
I think I'm going to tell the guy that I'll have to get a certified check from a bank or cash to proceed with the transaction. The thought of it being a stolen credit card check from a mailbox is disturbing. 12/2/2007 1:43:40 PM |

make them take their check and go buy a money order
^usps money orders are limited to $1000, but you can get more than one--other institutions (e.g. secu) have their own rules

too risky. Just get a money order or cashier check. 12/2/2007 2:28:46 PM |

you are asking for problems here
you think that somebody who is buying a car with a credit card is going to be able to pay for it?
If its legit, they can make the check out to cash and give you the dollar bucks tomorrow
ABORT
if these people are that shady to use a credit card check, they will likely drive the car around without it getting registered as well (happened to me, I repossessed the car)
