From Billboard.com...
Led Zeppelin will play its first U.S. show since July 24, 1977, this June at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn., according to an email published in industry commentator Bob Lefsetz's newsletter. The report also says Metallica will headline the event.
Speculation about additional shows for Zeppelin, which will play a stated one-off Dec. 10 in London in tribute to late Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun, has been buzzing for weeks.
A Bonnaroo spokesperson had no comment on the email. A Led Zeppelin spokesperson could not be reached at deadline.
Summer Zeppelin shows would reportedly conflict with a tour by frontman Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, which is presently being booked. However, Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has played at Bonnaroo on several occasions, most recently this summer when he jammed on his old band's songs with Ben Harper and the Roots' ?uestlove As for Metallica, Bonnaroo would likely provide a launching pad for the group's next album, expected sometime in 2008 via Elektra. 12/3/2007 1:44:13 PM |

I don't know how I feel about this (led zeppelin, i fucking hate the metallica rumor). LZ is my favorite band of all time, but this could mean I don't get a ticket, if the "first US show" thing is true, they will sell out like mad. Apparently there aren't going to be early bird tix this year, which I was banking on since they are around $50 cheaper.
I guess it could be ok, since they sell ~80,000 tix, but you know ticket brokers would devour them.
Metallica on the other hand just makes me go WTF
they represent everything Bonnaroo is not.

They could record a 2 hour set of the wind blowing over Jimmy Hendrix's grave and I'd rather pay to hear it than give Metallica any more of my money. 12/3/2007 6:19:05 PM |

not to mention the crowd metallica would bring. NOT chill.
if there was a good midnight show, I would strongly consider skipping M to get a good spot for that.

the worst part will be that if they headline, it'll be the only thing going on during their set
like during the police this year
while they were busy sucking ass, it would have been nice to mosey on to another stage 12/3/2007 9:36:25 PM |

So what's up with the concern about the different "crowds"?
Some dude's jabbering about the Metallica crowd and how they're "NOT chill." The festival is months away, and he's already being a NOT-chill, exclusive douchebag.
Ninety percent of the people there couldn't give two shits about the music, and y'all are worried about a group of Metallica fans who would actually go for the music...
Y'all are just so peaceful, so chill...wouldn't want some music fans to disrupt the vibe that 18-year-old posers have worked so hard to create... 12/3/2007 11:19:36 PM |

^^not true.
I'm sorry certain bands do not belong at certain festivals.
I guess I would be a NOT chill douchebag if I got upset about Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the disco, The Defotnes, Between the Buried and Me, and Coheed and Cambria were invited to bonnaroo. 12/3/2007 11:30:18 PM |

C'mon, now. Ninety percent? Maybe the two percent that go there to solely buy or sell psychedelics, sure. But everyone else there is digging the vibe the music puts out, and Metallica is not the vibe that I want at Bonnaroo.
So maybe Bonnaroo is full of pretentious elitists. But it's always the pretentious elitists that have good taste in music.12/4/2007 1:24:18 AM |
BridgetSPK #1 Sir Purr Fan 31378 Posts user info edit post |
^Pretentious elitists? WTF are you talking about? Smoking premo weed and tolerating jam sessions does not a pretentious elitist make.
And, yeah, I'm sure people do "dig the vibe the music puts out," but not showering for a few days and talking about how such and such set was totally rad doesn't make you any better, any chiller than some Tool fans or some Metallica fans.
It's not like you're listening to epic arias, and you gotta exclude the guy who prefers David Allan Coe for obvious reasons...
And, no, you do not have the best taste in music. Your suggesting so highlights what I'm getting at here. 12/4/2007 4:39:39 AM |

I've seen just about every Metallica tour from Ride The Lightning through The Black Album.
with the possible exception of the Master of Puppets tour, ive got to say that Metallica is one of the shittiest fucking live acts ive ever seen. I dont know about M of P show, because i was so wasted. I didn't stop seeing double until after Ozzy came on
anyhow, i used to be a big Metallica fan. but it was no secret that James Hetfield couldn't play or sing worth a fuck outside the studio.
i hate them now. they're just another bunch of aged millionaire sellouts riding on the mythology of what they pretended to represent 20 years ago.

I saw them perform this song, "Raising Sand," on The Today Show. I enjoyed it immensely--it was like finding something brand new, yet familiar.

During the interview, Plant said, "Allison has a voice like an angel--and I don't." I thought it was a nice moment of humility for one of rock's greatest lead vocalists.12/11/2007 2:31:19 AM |
