I had road runner at my old apartment. I had the cable turned off and the road runner service stopped. My new apartment comes with TWC included, but no RR.
I still have my RR equipment. If i hook up the equipment to my cable outlet in my new apartment will the service work? 12/6/2007 11:01:28 AM |

no. but there are switches outside probably on a wall that you could tamper and risk lawsuit if you try to steal it. i would recommend the latter. 12/6/2007 11:02:52 AM |

no because you have to be authenticated with the physical address of the modem
ie they have to have the MAC address of the modem in their allowed list 12/6/2007 11:37:24 AM |

Just pay for it, it isn't that expensive. 12/6/2007 11:38:49 AM |

speaking of TWC,
In the newer neighborhoods, do they still have a filter that they place on your cable box attached to your house that keeps you from having standard cable when you have only ordered basic?
I saw a "splitter" that I am wondering if it acts as a filter too. I think it said 1000hz on it, but I can be 100% sure.
At my old condo, they just have these tube looking filters attached to the individual cable connections in the box, but I was wondering if they do the filtering upstream somewhere in newer neighborhoods. 12/7/2007 8:47:38 PM |

Make sure you call and ask how long that deal is good for after you sign up. Here in Maryland, comcast is the "monopoly" provider of cable and internet and they pulled a stunt where for 3 months I paid something like 29 bucks a month and then when that period was over they jacked the rate up to 60 bucks a month. That's a fuckload of money for internet so make sure you know the price after the introductory period.

^That RR deal for 29.99 is for a 6 month term, after which it will continue subscription and it goes back up to 39 or 49 bucks per month for service again. TWC wasnt as sneaky about it as comcast, though, they told me that up front. There are threads where people stay you can just call them up, cancel just before your term ends, and call up later to resubscribe for the 29.99 rate again. 12/8/2007 3:07:21 AM |

^Depending on how much of an asshole the person you call is, they may or may not claim you have to wait a month to two weeks before resubscribing. Also, to cancel your account you're supposed to turn in all equipment. Sometimes they actually care about that in terms of giving you the new deal- sometimes not. 12/8/2007 8:46:30 AM |

So in addition to the box at your house, they also have a box at the end of the street that has a filter on it? 12/8/2007 9:07:28 AM |
