What foreign movies are on your list. I would have to say the movie Old Boy, and I also heard a movie called Three Extremes is very good as well. 12/10/2007 4:59:15 PM |

Three Extremes is much better than Oldboy...but I'm not sure I'd want to watch it again.

i liked Old Boy, but i don't know if i'd say its "must see". i know many people who would not enjoy it at all, but they wouldn't enjoy it if it was american either (and aren't they remaking it here?).
and i haven't seen 3 Extremes, but i'm sure even fewer people would really enjoy that.
"must see" makes me think more like Amelie, Pan's Labyrinth, Crouching Tiger, City of God, City of Lost Children, The Devil's Backbone... and that's not even counting brittish movies. 12/10/2007 5:17:51 PM |

one of my favorite movies ever
Nueve Reinas (The Nine Queens)
Quote : | "Early one morning, Marcos observes Juan successfully pulling off a bill-changing scam on a cashier, and then getting caught as he attempts to pull the same trick on the next shift. Marcos steps in, claiming to be a policeman, and drags Juan out of the store. Once they are back on the street, Marcos reveals himself to be a fellow swindler with a game of much higher stakes in mind, and he invites Juan to be his partner in crime. A once-in-a-lifetime scheme seemingly falls into their laps - an old-time con man enlists them to sell a forged set of extremely valuable rare stamps, The Nine Queens. The tricky negotiations that ensue bring into the picture a cast of suspicious characters, including Marcos' sister Valeria, their younger brother Federico and a slew of thieves, conmen and pickpockets. As the deceptions mount, it becomes more and more difficult to figure out who is conning whom. Written by Farsante " |

I've really enjoyed a lot of foreign directors that have expanded to the American market.
Most Herzog films are pretty good and I really enjoyed Rescue Dawn. Someone mentioned Run Lola Run, and I've liked all the Tykwer movies. Perfume was one of my favorite movies last year, and I guess is technically a German film, but it's in English. 12/11/2007 2:30:00 PM |

I'd recommend watching the first one, it adds a lot of context to the second movie, particularly with the backstory of a couple main characters. They're both great anyway.11/25/2014 1:29:17 PM |
