My roommate's parents just got a new tv and gave us their old one. It is a Sony KP-51WS510. The tv is HD ready but the tuner is not built in. I want to get some opinions about tuners from you guys to go along with the research I have been doing online. Any product recommendations or things I need to know before buying would be great.
Specs about the tv http://reviews.cnet.com/projection-tvs/sony-kp-51ws510/4507-6484_7-20890071.html?tag=specs 12/10/2007 8:29:23 PM |

do you have cable/satellite? if so, you don't need one. if you don't want cable/satellite, then i'd consider just how much broadcast tv you are going to watch before spending the money on an HD tuner. 12/10/2007 9:57:39 PM |

I just sold one of these. Anyways, when I bought mine all I could really find was the Samsung HDTV Tuner Terrestrial or whatever it was called, check eBay they go for about 80 where in the stores they're about $159.
What Dirty Monkey said isn't true. If you get regular cable from Time Warner, you need that box to snag any local HD channels from them; if you get digital cable, then they have supplied you with a box that does indeed have a HD tuner in it and all you need to do is plug it into the TVs HDMI or Component cable area. If your box doesn't have HD outputs just take it to TWC on Atlantic and they'll swap out for you; it's no extra cost for a HD box. 12/11/2007 8:30:59 AM |

^why would you not get digital cable? its like 10 bucks more a month and you get a lot more channels. just my opinion, but if i'm going to spend $45 on 75 channels, i'm going to spend $55 on hundreds (even though they are mostly full of shit programming). anyway, correction is if you have satellite or DIGITAL cable, you don't need a tuner. 12/11/2007 4:31:40 PM |

I pay 59.99 for regular internet (not lite) and digital cable. When I was living with Noen, we only had digital cable so when he moved out and a new room mate came in and he wanted cable, so I went to them and they said because I already had internet, it would be cheaper for me to get digital which was 29.99 for a year than standard which woulda cost 54.99
