Yes that will hook up to his DVD player. If you want to actually get the 5.1 surround sound you will need to also purchase an Optical cable OR digital coax cable. (like this one, don't spend more than $20 on one, and you can find them for <$10) http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7811227
The dvd player should have come with Yellow/Red/White cables but these won't provide true digital surround sound.
while at walmart, you might also want to get 100' of 18gauge speaker wire, they have it in both the electronics department and car audio department... wire is wire.
I feel like interjecting that that's a pretty solid overall surround sound package for the price... All the individual components are mediocre, and there is no video switching on the reciever, but I'm personally against using a reciever for video switching, so shouldn't be that big of a deal. It's by no means the best thing in the world, but overall it'll get the job done and do it pretty well

i didn't buy him the dvd player he bought it and i think its a phillips or magnovox(sp?), I don't know. he just wanted a new boombox and i figure the surround sound system would be better since the output watts would be higher. 12/14/2007 4:13:32 PM |

This system is a lot nicer though and is not TOO much more. 12/14/2007 4:48:40 PM |

the one she showed is $192... it's a good value for <$200... both systems you guys mentioned are nice but ~$300 which is a different bracket...
[Edited on December 14, 2007 at 5:44 PM. Reason : it's a gift, which is harder to justify an extra $100 for] 12/14/2007 5:43:06 PM |
