Anyone know if this is true. Ive heard that after 18 credit hours you get kicked out of the program? I looked it up and found a few things but nothing concrete. 12/16/2007 3:39:58 PM |

Thanks....ass
I've looked there and most everything that I can find states that your fellowship/assistantship/TA status depends on a 3.0 cum. gpa requirement.
However I have heard that this also applies to all in grad programs (i do econ personally)
Anyone? 12/16/2007 4:36:20 PM |

you must not have looked very hard

Also your program is terminated if you fall below 3.0 after 18 hours are completed. There is a reinstatement process but you have to get the deptartment head, graduate director, and dean to approve it. 12/16/2007 7:06:26 PM |

I've been a grad student since the fall of 2004 and I didn't know this. I always thought the 3.0 rule only applied to assistantship elegibility. 12/17/2007 2:10:32 AM |

This is what you want:
Quote : | "Graduate students may be terminated from the program at any time if, in the judgment of the degree-granting Department and the Graduate School, a student fails to make satisfactory progress towards the completion of the degree (regardless of grades). The definition of satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree program may differ among degree offering units. Examples of unsatisfactory progress may include, but are not limited to, inadequate GPA, inadequate research and/or research skills, failure to obtain satisfactory grades in required courses for the program, or failing the candidacy, comprehensive, or final oral examination." |
Quote : | "A. Academic Warning Graduate students are given a notice of academic warning if they have accumulated less than nine hours at the 400-level or above and have less than a 3.00 GPA. Any student with a GPA less than 3.00 cannot hold an assistantship." |
I think there are exceptions to this ^, though.
Quote : | "B. Academic Probation If a student has attempted between nine and 18 credit hours at the 400 level or above and has a GPA of less than 3.00, then that student will be placed on academic probation and will be ineligible for appointment or reappointment to an assistantship or fellowship." |

Keep in mind that you must have a grade of no lower than C- in a given course for it to count toward graduation. And concerning financial aid--if you are using it--the aid will continue as long as your department indicates that you're continuing to make satisfactory academic progress.12/17/2007 5:28:28 AM |
