....most want to see live in concert anytime in their career?

I'd probably want to see A Tribe Called Quest live right after their release of Midnight Marauders.

or

I'd love to see Bob Marley live in San Fransisco in December of 1972. My favorite live CD ever.

Dead and not performing anymore: While I have it on DVD, I would have liked to have seen a full on Rat Pack show back in their heydey in Vegas

alive, but not really a show you can see anymore: anywhere in the Bronx back in the 1970s, when DJ Kool Herc was throwin down breakbeats and birthing hiphop

alive but not really together: Agreed. ^^ Tribe at the MM release would have been incredible

alive but not a band anymore: I always loved going to see Cast Iron Filter at the Pour House back in like 00-03, before they separated

alive and still performing: Little brother anytime they go on tour...

luckily ive gotten to see most of the bands i would want to see but the ones i havent gotten to see are all so different live I couldnt just pick one (besides maybe Queen) that I would want to see more than the others. the slimmest i could make my list would probably be:

Queen
Minor Threat
The Get Up Kids
Led Zepplin
Meat Puppets
Sunny Day Real Estate
Mineral
Jimmy Eat World (Clarity Era)
The Dismemberment Plan
The Mars Volta
Muse

i saw dismemberment plan a couple times and they were pretty good. but every live recording i've heard of them, the vocals sound god-awful.

I missed the Jay-Z concert at the Ritz right after Blueprint came out. He did a damn 3 hour set.

^^ really?

i had kind of figured they would be spot on with the recording since the vocals on their albums werent really focused on spectacular singing (dont know how to say it but im sure you know what im saying)

The Beatles, of course.

Pink Floyd as well.

Also, whoever mentioned Sonic Youth... I saw them about 10 years ago, if that's what you meant. Anyway, they sucked baws 10 years ago, of course it may have just been the venue.

Those are what immediately came to my mind. I'll also throw in Weezer sometime between 1993 and 1996, just because I've always been a bit of a fanboy when it comes to those first two albums.

My Bloody Valentine (although I probably would have gone deaf)
Elliott Smith
Hendrix
Devo
SRV
The Clash
Miles Davis
The Smiths
and fuck it, Van Halen too

i had to add a few awesome exceptions:

The Libertines (not without Pete )
The Specials (before 1980 when Terry Hall left)
B-52s (late 70's, http://youtube.com/watch?v=DnU3WoQZHJE&feature=related)
Flaming Lips (headphones tour)
Wilco (pre-ghost)

and the obvious ones beatles, dylan, pumpkins, sonic youth, dinosaur jr

and the bands I really should see but still haven't yet: daft punk, decemberists, ryan adams, strokes

I have missed so much awesomeness

Would love to see Mr. Bungle get back together and play some more shows. I saw them in 1999 and it was the best show I have ever seen.

Pink Floyd, Green Day, Nirvana, Eagles, Beatles, Queen, Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Guns N Roses and Def Leopard.

- But it would have to also be reasonably priced...not $2000 for a ticket like a Celine Dion or Barb Streisand (not that I would see either but I know my wife wanted to but not at their ridiculous prices)

I saw them at the Cradle on that tour...it was fucking magical. It didn't hurt that Enon (back when they were a four piece and ruled) opened. I still have a bag of confetti from that night.

I'll jump in on saying I'd like to see NMH just as Aeroplane was coming together.

I didn't notice that someone mentioned S-K...I saw them twice, and they were one of the most ferocious live bands I've ever seen. I'd even say they were more energetic than Valient Thorr, though it's a different type of energy. I'm sad that I had to miss them in Winston-Salem on that last tour; I would've really liked to see "Modern Girl" in person.

The one show I'm super-pissed about missing is when the Magnetic Fields played 69 Love Songs in its entirety over two nights at the Carrboro Artscenter.

BAAALLLLLS OUT.

Second time was the same trip as seeing A Silver Mt. Zion.

1) Townes -fucking- Van Zandt man at the Old Quarter back when Wrecks Bell owned it
2) of course the incomparable Johnny Cash, probably at the Carter Family Fold or at San Quentin (as a guest mind you)
3) and Mr. John Hartford as well . . . MerleFest would have been fine for that.

Totally forgot Zappa. Would see pretty much any show of his.

I would especially like to see that tour he did with the music he composed on his synclavier and performed by a chamber ensemble in london. I have a link somewhere with an interview about it.
