Breaking news on CNN. This could be a false alarm like last time, but it doesn't look like it.

I didn't find it on CNN, but al Jazeera is reporting it as well:

Quote :
"A group of 300 Turkish troops crossed into Kurdish territory in northern Iraq overnight and moved about three kilometres deeper into Iraq on Tuesday morning.

A senior Iraqi military source said the Turkish troops were lightly armed and moved into the Gali Rash area, a mountainous district near the border.

This first ground incursion comes as Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, made an unannounced visit to Kirkuk in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

Turkey says it wants to flush out Kurdistan Workers' party (PKK) fighters that carry out attacks on Turkey from bases in Iraq.

Jabbar Yawar, a spokesman for the Kurdish peshmerga security force, confirmed the incursion.

Yawar said: "The area they entered is a deserted area and there is no Iraqi force or peshmerga deployed there."

Iraq's Kurdish regional government condemned the incursion."

heard it on the news at about 6am this morning. was just a skirmish. Kurdish officials deny it. The source of this information are the rebels. Not sure if there were any updates as of 6am this morning.

Yeah, CNN has pretty much dropped it, so apparently it wasn't much.

^ quality.

Apparently it was quite real and US assisted. That could explain Rice's presence in Iraq.

Quote :
"On Sunday, Turkey conducted airstrikes against the rebels in northern Iraq. As many as 50 fighter jets were involved in the attack, the biggest against the PKK in years. An Iraqi official said the planes attacked several villages, killing one woman. The rebels said two civilians and five rebels died.

The Iraqi parliament on Monday condemned the airstrike, calling it an "outrageous" violation of Iraq's sovereignty. Turkey said Sunday's attack used U.S. intelligence and was carried out with tacit American approval."

I don't have a problem with this. I think if turkey is so concerned over the well being of Iraq due to the Kurdish thorn in its side they should take a more active roll and free us from the gun scopes of the insurgent towel heads.
