I graduated Wednesday, but just checked my grades (never occurred to me that I wouldn't pass something, so I wasn't worried). I received a U in PE 101. I am naturally very upset and want to know WHY THE HELL there is a U there. The teacher tends to be an asshole anyway, and the only thing I can figure is that he fucked up my absences yet again (he has me missing a bunch of non-missed days about half way through the semester, but I thought we resolved it). I've left a message on his voicemail and emailed him, what other actions should I take?

Good luck getting in touch with a faculty member before January 7. Good luck getting in touch with *anyone* at the university before January 2, considering yesterday was the last day before we closed for Winter Break.

Well that is rather unfortunate, I'd read up on contesting grades if I were you, then I'd look into ways to prove your attendance record is better than apparently he claims. In the meanwhile start preparing for an easy last semester. I mean you probably should go ahead and start the next semester and hope you can just stop once the issue gets settled... but that could be costly...

What a stupid class and a stupid requirement anyway.

I gotta ask, is it possible you just didn't make the mark? I mean to get a S, you've gotta have an equivalent of an 80 or above, and you haven't said anything about your grades, other than you never worry about failing which is usually above a 70. Devil's advocate but for all you know you coulda gotten a 79 and this is the douchebags way of giving you the business.

you may be able to take the final over if that would help and the dean will agree to it

The not passing was no fault of my own, the instructor kept marking me tardy or absent when I clearly was in attendance. He has this retarded system for taking attendance and assume he is infallible. I am going to claim a never-ending feud if this douche ruins my graduation, Christmas, and wedding through his own stupidity.

why you would fulfill your pe requirement in the last semester is beyond me

and why you would be tardy and then complain about getting a U is beyond me

and how you got a u in a pe is beyond me

but i'm just some douche on the internet playing devils advocate

truth be told im taking my 1** PE this semester (my last) myself... i just packed my schedule with other stuff so i never got to it. already had the advanced PE too. i'm not really sure how you would get a U unless your grades were awful?

im wandering what exactly this attendance taking procedure is that youre talking about?

i mean if he takes attendance through assigned seating were you not in the right seat?

if he takes through roll call didnt you say here when he called your name?

if you have to sign a roll sheet, didnt you just sign the sheet?

or did you show up late each day?

I have never been tardy to this class, and I did not miss over the allotted amount. His attendance procedure is he looks around and if he doesn't see you he gives you an X in the square for that day, and a / if you're late. Now, I looked at his attendance sheet and noticed that the person below me's / oozed into my square, hence the reason why he thought I was late, but he wouldn't listen to my complaint. But, as of halfway through the semester I talked with him and I was good on absences/whatever, no problems. After I talked to him I was never tardy or absent, so there is no founding for him giving me a U due to absences.

Unless you're getting into a serious job, no one will ever check on your grades or if you really graduated. I have several friends who were 1 class from graduating and have gotten jobs after saying they did. Nobody gets caught... like I say, unless you're getting into a job with a really big, important company, government, etc.

Of course, eventually you should get the credit however you can to ensure no future slips.

I figured after I talk with him, if he doesn't fess up, I'll take a distance ed pe. I live away from Raleigh now and am getting married in April, which was the main problem. I'm wondering if I should even mention it to the employer though? Just to be honest, or not worth it?

half of me says that you probably missed more than you should have, and its probably your fault.

the other half says that if he doesn't even call names to check attendance, and you're tellng the truth about your absences, i would definitely petition the PE department or whatever the procedure is. if you're in the right then you deserve to get your piece of paper.

but yeah, you should have taken care of this before your last semester.

I STILL have not received one of my grades! Granted, I did not graduate - but I need to know whether or not to sign up for it again. I wasn't doing so well in there, so there is a possibility that I didn't pass. But he told us that he would have our grades in by Friday because he was leaving town for Christmas vacation... here it is the next week late as crap, and still no grade.

you would be the one that gets caught when your new employer calls to verify that you graduated. I would mention it to them, it is a damn PE....would they really care? better safe than SORRY.

Lots of people get away with speeding also.....

Not necessarily true. If a company uses a third party background check agency they will likely note on their report if anything on your application file contradicts what they find.

I know for a fact Verizon does this and will disqualify you for a misrepresentation.

i remember taking weightlifting PE for a grade...I aced the midterm, maxed out the charts on every single lift, got either an A or B on the final, and ended up with a "B" in the class...

all because I didn't bring my workout logbook to class one day when the teacher spot checked to see if we brought them (it was -5 from my final grade).

There is always this option:

Quote :
"7. REEXAMINATION FOR SENIORS

A reexamination in one course may be granted to a senior under the following conditions:

7.1. that all other degree requirements have been met and the satisfactory completion of that course would make the student eligible for graduation;

7.2. that the course for which the reexamination is requested has been taken not more than twelve months before the intended date of graduation;

7.3. that the office of the dean of the college in which the student is enrolled certifies that the above conditions have been met; and

7.4. that the department offering the course for which the reexamination is requested approves the request.

The reexamination must be based on the total subject matter of the course and must be taken not later than one month after the date of the intended graduation. The only grades which can be given on a reexamination are C (+/-), D (+/-), or F. If the grade received on the reexamination is higher than the original grade on the course, the higher grade will replace the original grade, which will affect the cumulative grade point average. The student may not take a second reexamination under the policy.

Applications for reexamination can be obtained in the office of the dean of each college. The completed application with the new grade indicated must be delivered to the Department of Registration and Records by the instructor and will be used to change the grade on the student's academic record."

http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/courses_undergrad/REG02.20.14.php

Not sure if it applies to a course that you took for pass/fail though...

Shit, no A's or B's allowed, and the test is cumulative, that blows.
