Unless you have a way to prove she hit you, which I would work on getting ASAP if you can, you might be out of luck. My neighbor once backed into me and left a note, but then she started being a bitch and avoiding the insurance company, etc. They said that if she hadn't left the note I would have been screwed.

she hadn't hit me yet, but she threatened to call the police if i keep parking my car there. I think it's a bit rediculous of her to call the police, since I believe she has no legal ground for this. Btw, she lives across the street from me, so there's no way my car is on "her" land. I'm just asking to make sure that if she ever hit me in the future, it's not my fault.

As long as there is no law prohibiting you from parking in the public right of way on/off the street or law that limits the amount of time that you can be parked there, your neighbor has no legal grounds for complaint -- even if you were parked in front of her house.

And if she ever were to back into you, it would be her fault for hitting a parked car.

I would give a call to local law enforcement just to ask them about residential parking regulations to double check that there are no laws in place that prohibit you from parking there.

A public street is "public" land, so I'm not sure what she is getting at. I guess you can take a sledge to someone's vehicle as long as it is illegally parked. There may be ordinances or HOA covenants in place to prevent you from parking in the grass, or obstructing a sidewalk, but that has nothing to with liability from hitting a parked car. If you were illegally parked, she may be able to get you ticketed and/or towed.

By parked in the yard, do you mean two wheels were in the grass or your whole vehicle? Is it a public or private street? Are you in or out of the right of way?

I usually don't park at that spot, but sometimes my friends do. They didn't park right behind the driveway, but a few feet away from it. It's not my fault she doesn't know how to back her car out properly. The thing that pissed me off is that she wasn't being nice about it, and asked us to park somewhere else, but she left a note threatening to call the police if we park there again. Also, the car was completely on the grass, not on the street.

just an update, I talked with her again today, and she said that the car was on "DOT land", not on my yard. Also, she said that she talked to the sheriff, and the sheriff told her that if she hit my car, I'm on my own. I was like "whatever, if you hit my car, I'm taking you to court."

One thing that you should learn as an adult is to never ever take someone's word. If you want to know the legality of the situation, you should find out for yourself.

i'm not in a HOA neighborhood, the car is definitely is in plain view, can be seen far away. The only reason you will hit the car is that you don't look back before you back out.
