just as stated... I have been a limewire guy since it's conception and have turned my head the other way on the whole torrent craze... Hence- I would like to know the following:
What exactly is a torrent?
How do you download one?
Where is the best/fastest Place to download?
Once DL'ed, how to open (i assume it is not like download & Listen- prolly more 2 it)?
What are the benefits?
Can i incorporate it w/ my Limewire?
Any other info I should know?
Thanks... bombs away 12/26/2007 10:06:04 PM |

^^^ I fully understand that I could use google and fish through a thousans nonsensical posts, advertisements, etc... to try and find something useful to me...
In all honesty there are individuals here on TWW that I would both trust (to an extent) and understand- That is all-
Seems that people's answer to shit in TT is always: http://www.google.com - WTF is the purpose of this section of the forum if people can't answer a pretty simple help thread with a helpful response?

Just shut the fuck up and google or use wikipedia. I think it's pretty obvious that this thread is troll bait. We aren't stupid you idiot. 12/26/2007 10:53:32 PM |

because if you had googled torrent+wiki
you would have arrived at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrent
clicking on the torrent subject that you were interested in would have answered all your questions
but obviously based on your threads and posts in classifieds, you are just too stupid to search for yourself 12/26/2007 10:56:00 PM |

^ depending on what you want to know, torrents can't be explained by a single, simple post.
You obviously already know they are something you download stuff with, but beyond that, it's not worth anyone's effort to type out what a torrent is, and how they work. Hence, a link to google, where someone else has already typed out nice long documentation about torrents.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28protocol%29
This is the actual link you want.
The gist of it is this though... you download the torrent file, you download a torrent application (like µtorrent or Azureus) you open ports on your router, and then you open the torrent file with the torrent application.

If the ISP really wants to bust you, they can.
PeerGuardian and encrypted transports can help to thwart (but not completely stop) trivial attempts and finding illegal torrenters. 12/26/2007 11:47:56 PM |

thanks moron, Your brief explanation is basically what my current understanding is... I guess the reason I wanted to learn more in depth is that i just don't see how the work involved to utilize a torrent file is more efficient than waiting on my 100kb/s to run on Limewire...
which leads to my other question up there.... is it really worth it? 12/26/2007 11:55:01 PM |

downloading and configuring the software and router is a one-time thing. after that it's just as easy as clicking a link in a browser. 12/27/2007 12:03:00 AM |

ahhh... OK- See there is where I am misunderstanding the whole concept- I have been under the impression that there is always a "process" so to speak when downloading files-
It's all getting a bit clearer now 12/27/2007 1:11:51 AM |

Depends on what you're downloading. If you're just downloading single songs at a time then stick with limewire. I generally just stick to limewire. However, a couple of weeks ago I downloaded a zeppelin discography with BitComet... I wouldn't have wanted to download each individual song with limewire.12/27/2007 1:33:05 AM |
ncemt_03 All American 5453 Posts user info edit post |
see thats my issue... I don't listen to a ton of "pop" shit- Usually you get quick downloads with multiple hosts for 5-10 songs by an artists... but with the floyds, Zeppelins, and Dead of this world it would be nice to get full albums as opposed to a few popular songs... 12/27/2007 1:36:48 AM |

Step1. Get uTorrent Step2. Open a port for uTorrent on your router Step3. Setup uTorrent to use that port and test it Step4. Setup uTorrent specific to your connection speed (either use the defaults for your connection or read a guide) Step5. Download torrents.
Stuff like peer guardian is worthless shitware not worth your time.
Rule #1 of P2P downloads: If you can get to it, so can the RIAA/MPAA. This applies to all p2p. No torrents are secure and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying or doesn't understand how it works.
