though most of yall won't appreciate this I'd thought I'd share anyways. So I stopped my my dealer today to check things out. all and all I'm pretty sure I'm going w/ the ford w/ a SNG (switch n go) bed.

The ford hands down in way of shear power and heavy dutyness. the ford's frame, breaks, tie rod, springs, rim were all bigger. i took it for a spin and even w/ that massive box (drag city) it drove really well. the cab was better constructed, though the sterling had more leg room (likely due to the smaller tires and rims) but since I'm not driving it, and the crew (shorted than me) that will won't be going long distances, I don't care all that much. Teh ford seats were much nicer with full sized seats for everyone, much safer in my opinion to have a full seat instead of the half backs. and the kicker is the ford (w/ rebats and such, is less expensive, so my mind is pretty much made up.

well it was probably built in a union shop so im sure the breaks were bigger

haha, actually the sterling is japanese built and so of course it has an exhaust brake to counter. I already own a mitshibushi fuso and they are nice, just a little less umph

What SNG beds do you plan to run/what will you be hauling?
I will prob. never run another Fuso, but maybe our needs are different.

sweet. how bad is the engine noise on newer coe's? i know older ones could be downright deafening. sng bed is definitely cool, you can get a lot more out of one truck.

we'll be getting (maybe not all at once) 1st landscaper bed for mowers and such, haven't decided on an enclosed one or the open one, a mulch body (aka one of the big drop boxes), probably a cube body for the nursery to move plant material around (we send a truck to the greensboro farmers market on occasion) and I'm really thinking another drop box to replace the one we currently get from waste management. why not just haul it to the dump myself once a month? and maybe just a flatbed. the heaviest thing we'll be hauling is mulch, I have the kodiak for the cats and trees and we have a f750 w/ a 12' dirt box that handles soil, and a freightliner that hauls ~22yds of mulch, so I'm not looking for nothing super powerful, most just ease of driving and mpg. oh and this was much quieter than my mitfuso till you put the pedal to the floor the motor got some gettup. but wind noise is negligible, I personally will never buy another pickup, they just don't do anything well enough to not buy a cheaper cabover... I have my big trucks for the heavy lifting and I'm going to go smaller for things that we can go small on. also w/ the SNG I'll get my next truck to have the same system and you have built-in redundancy, so if the maintenance truck is down I can take (next purchase) irrigation service truck and just switch out bodies... no angry customers. also these cabovers are SO easy to service, raise the bed, flip the hood and you have total access... no more standing on bumpers sitting onto the engine

makes sense, sounds like you have plenty of other muscle in the fleet. Fuso was great for my guys to drive and not run into stuff, but it didn't like a trailer behind it or pallets of stone in it.
