I'm pretty happy about this recruit. Was this the kid who had an article written about him towards the start of summer basically saying State was his dream school and he was just waiting for an offer?

Also, he reclassified from 2021 to 2020 immediately after he visited State. Was a 5 star 2021 recruit.

I just read some random article that said he was a 5* 2021 recruit, I have no idea what service it was from or whatever. But it seems to be positive news that he immediately reclassified after our visit. Looks like Louisville and Maryland are the biggest competition for him now.

But getting him in next year would be huge to replace Markell. He'd likely immediately come in and start.

He's 17 I think, just reclassed. Need to get him in our strength program.

Also Markell is listed as 6'1" 175

He's a PG, he doesn't need to be 6'10. I mean that would be cool, but unnecessary. Maybe we can get a grad transfer PG, because the thought of Harris playing meaningful minutes scares the shit out of me.

I'm not really worried about his height as much as him hitting the weight room, which I'm sure he will.

Keatts better be one hell of a coach because he's to basketball recruiting what Tom O'Brien was to football recruiting relative to our program history

O'Brien occasionally got commits from top end - even 5* recruits, which Keatts hasnt done, but the reason TOBs recruiting was so bad that it ended up a primary reason for his firing is because his average recruit was poor relative to the conference

I don't think you guys understand just how drastic the talent decline has been. In the past, we've had talent, but it's been squandered by terrible coaching. You'd still see glimpses of that talent show up in tournaments - Brandon Costner in the ACCT run, CJ Leslie in the NCAAs etc. That's how we'd go on those runs and get those upsets, they weren't really talent upsets, it was just the team actually playing to their ability for once. Right now, we have two Top 100 guys on our roster (well, really one, since Keatts suspended the other) - and, coincidence, they're our best players. The rest are solid, role player types. Guys who can start on really good teams - but guys who if they're your entire team, you're not going to be great. Our talent level is around that of Clemson's right now, which might explain how we finished next to them in the conference standings last year

What this means is when you get an 11 seed with 3 star players you're actually an 11 seed and arent going to do jack shit, so like I said he better be a really good coach

So the goal is to get 1 star players, right? Lower stars = better like number of strokes if you're playing golf, correct? If only tower could explain this to me because I'm confused.

the misconception I am trying to correct is the difference between where we are talent wise and where people may think we are. not "durrrrr 5*s > 2*s"

obviously we arent going to be duke or unc level loaded, but we should be closer to louisville than clemson

I don’t think anybody is arguing otherwise. It’s been commented on before that Keatts’ recruiting has been underwhelming.

Yeah we should be closer to the program that has won a national championship in the last decade and has been a national power for most of the current recruiting classes lifetimes than the team that has had similar recent success to us.

Since FSU joined the conference they’ve got more S16 (5-3) and more E8 (2-0) appearances than us. They also have a conference title. NCAAT appearances are tied 10-10. I realize they aren’t a traditional power but I’d kill for a ACC title. They also finished ranked 10th in the AP poll in 2012 and 2019. They had some lean years under Steve Robinson but Leonard Hamilton is a good coach and I trade his success there for any recent success we’ve had.

Pretty terrible take. We already have a top-25 recruiting class coming in next year. If Hall commits, that will likely push us into the top-20, which is where we want to be to build the program. Hopefully next year's class can help stabilize the roster a little bit and we wont need to reach for some of these lesser talented transfers just to fill out our roster.

I mean, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out...

Josh Hall: "I'm going to commit in the Spring."

*visits NC State*

*2-3 days later*

Also Josh Hall: "I'm going to commit in the next 2 weeks."
