Yeah due to attrition we really wanted a JUCO CB, so now we're done at CB in regards to recruiting(barring injury/attrition).

Interesting that we've been really targeting bigger CBs and then Miller is <6', so he must have really impressed the staff. Also, his offer list was pretty awful(we were his first major offer), but hopefully that was just because his recruiting was just taking off.

also of note (or maybe not)...it's the same JUCO that DT Jabari Ellis goes to. Ellis is down to us and SCar.

Person received a perfect athleticism score at The Opening, one of 7 players in attendance to do so.

Going to by a dynamic weapon for us for sure.

Other two announcing today are OT Jalynn Strickland (3*, Arkansas is biggest competition for him) and DE Thurman Geathers (3*, I think Louisville is the favorite but I might be wrong).

he's 6-6, 310 with a 6-11.5 wingspan but is only 3 stars and a NR tackle

i assume he's a project?

honestly, not sure. he's obviously got the size. we beat out Arkansas for him (they were his favorite for a while), so it's not like he's a total under the radar guy. i did read where he'd only been playing OL for a year...was DL prior to that. so that may play a role.

He has the body-size to be a productive player, just have to see how he develops and does in the S&C program, plenty of upside though.

Think other than Gwyn we're done on the OL, and honestly offense in general. Believe we'll be focused on defense with the rest of our scholarships barring a no-brainer popping up on offense.

There is only 1 5-star and 24 4-star OTs in the ESPN top 300. I wouldn't worry too much about the stars.

It is sad that I started this thread and am asking this, but I have been really busy this past year with starting my post residency job and having a baby. How does the incoming 2017 class look? Any good players to watch out for or are they mostly guys I won't see much of until they are redshirt juniors?

I would expect most to redshirt. Not sure of who specifically, but it seems like secondary is maybe our thinnest position so there may be more need for freshmen help there.

Damien Darden at TE was a 4* I think and we might need help at TE since moss transferred.

TE and our secondary are the only spots you'll likely see any true Freshmen, MAYBE at RB if we have an injury.

McCrae had offers from Louisville, GT, and Tennessee, so we beat out more than just Wake for him.

also got a safety transfer a while back from Tennessee. but again, not eligible till 2018. i might be wrong, but i think at this point we probably aren't gonna add anybody immediately eligible for this year.

PP guys did make a comment about us pursuing an immediately eligible DB...but that was a while back and i'm guessing it must have never panned out.

Ya Tennessee guy RSing this year

On another note, I think Ingram is the only frosh DB. More likely to have a true frosh (or JUCO or UT guy) NEXT season.

Jonathan Alston switched back to CB though so that should help this season. Losing him, Stevens and Boone

The immediately eligible DB was a CB transferring from Clemson as a post-grad but Clemson blocked any ACC schools or schools on their schedule. Think he ended up at ECU.

He's a 5'6" CB/WR that committed because of a document he read from our new DB coach.

The kid seems super impulsive and think he just wants to be recruited.

^^^Person is listed as an "ATH" but he also made The Opening at RB and was one of the top performers there, so I don't really think there is a question where he plays when he gets here. Graves will be a CB as well, so guessing only listed as ATH because they play multiple positions in HS. I usually have more faith in those guys than the guys that are listed as, for example, DE that we announce we're switching to OT. Always a little worried about "projects" coming out of HS, as they're normally athletic freaks that will need 2-3 years(if ever) to be effective on the field.

^^Those are some really bad examples as McKeever and Alston never really found a spot on the field, they were just great athletes. Hoping Alston can put it together this year and be useful.

I don't think "ATH" is a bad designation, I just think the problem with a guy like Milledge is that, he reminds me of a smaller version of Devin Hester. He's an insanely fast track guy that you're basically hoping can find a position on the field. Hester tried CB and WR but was mainly just a KR specialist.

The difference between the 2, coming out of HS Devin Hester was 5'11 and a 5* recruit that was listed as an ATH. Milledge is 5'6 and guessing he'll be 3* recruit that is listed as an ATH. He plays CB in HS, I just don't think he fits our current mold at all. I always felt like he'd end up being more of a Tavon Austin for us, a slot guy that occasionally runs the end-around and probably returns some kicks. If our coaches didn't actively recruit him, that should tell you something.

just as an update (and it's not really new news, just hadn't seen anything posted on it). we remain the leader for 4* DT Alim McNeill (3* on Rivals, 4* on ESPN, Scout, 247). he's got an impressive offer list - VT, UNC, FSU, Penn St, Clemson, and several other big name schools. sounds like he'll probably announce Sept 9, but that's not official.

lol at us being a 4 to 8 win program. Have only won less than 5 games twice in the last 20 years. Our history is mediocre enough that you don't need to hyperbolize its mediocrity. More accurately we're a 6 to 7 win program. Which is nothing to brag about.

But also...lighten up. If you don't care about recruiting that's fine. But maybe don't be a total ass about it.

Felt MUCH better when McNeil was announcing on the 9th. Seems like he took his OV for the FSU/Bama game and loved the big-school atmosphere that game provided.

Glad we're currently his leader, but it's a long time until January and our lead will likely depend on how our season goes. Also the more big-time schools start to miss on 4* and 5* guys deciding sooner, the more will go after McNeil.

Glad that Chris Dunn, kicker, was announced as an All-American, still consider him the most important recruit in this class. He could have started for us the last 2 years based on what I've read. Also seems like from his announcement that he's getting a lot of teams calling him but he's staying committed to us. (don't see why he'd put "#Committed" in the tweet unless it was to deter other schools from bugging him)

^definitely a fair point. one thing i read indicated that although McNeil was taking other visits, it was mostly "why not take these free visits to big schools and have a fun time" and not him truly wavering (although it's obviously a concern)
